First of all, Mr. Shipley, thank you very VERY much for this video!! Great to see a game that I haven't seen in a very long time. Second of all, that was a heck of a break San Diego got on Roby's first punt because of the fumble, but also a great break for Miami for two reasons. The first was that the punt somehow got off, and second because there was a penalty.

Christian Boddie. Very true but the reality is Dan Marino never had a great offensive line around him. Defense was overrated as well and let him down a lot. You're right you have to take advantage of the opportunities but you also got to have a team around you offensively and defensively if not it will be very slim that you win a championship I don't care how great a quarterback is , all you have to do is look at Tom Brady he's always had a great team around him
@johndolejsch51025 жыл бұрын
heydudedolfan13. he wasn't you're right , he was a great regular-season quarterback, Peyton Manning didn't win a Super Bowl until they put a great defense around him , all the years when he couldn't win in the playoffs Indianapolis defense wasn't that good, you got to have a team around you like the 70s Steelers, the 80s 49ers the 90s Cowboys, the New England Patriots of this new century, it's about team not won individual

heydudedolfan13. Not saying you but people in general need to understand yes tomorrow in the NFL is not promised , but it is Promised when you continue to put a great Supporting Cast around that quarterback, Tom Brady is the best example New England lets players go all the time because they don't want to give them big time money they just build through the draft took put a great cast around Tom Brady and again that's why they're a 6 time Super Bowl champion, I give credit where credit's due I'm not a Patriots fan, but I respect them, Bill Belichick Robert Kraft and their whole organization I respect as well

@kjuergens1985 that game vs the chargers going back to look at it. Miami had the lead with less than a minute but the defense allowed a TD at the end. @@Eman-wj8gq yeah that's not Pete's fault Dolphins blew a 21-6 halftime lead. After the chargers took the lead, Carney kicked off out of bounds giving Miami favorable field position and then a defensive PI on Eric Castle put Miami in field goal range, Dan tried to throw it for a TD before the kick attempt, dolphins offense was horrible the entire second half. Pete wouldn't have had an opportunity for that field goal if Carney didn't kick off out of bounds, now way was Miami going to get in range with 30 plus seconds driving the length of the field

Charger's qb Humphries starts his throw way behind his head , which results in a slow delivery and gives the defense a clue to where he's throwing it . Marino is the gold standard . i read that when Marino was in grade school his dad emphasized to practice throwing the ball as far and as fast as dan could with his armed cocked no further back than his ear. of course nobody is superman and dan does wind up behind his head for the long bomb but not as much as any qb i ever saw throwing the long ball .

It wasn't the defense that screwed the pooch against Buffalo the following week though. They played well, but all those turnovers and short fields doomed them.
