@MANCHESTER UNITED i know soccer is the biggest, but there are only 234 countries and dependencies combined, and to consider dozens of those countries are purely island chains or nations with an area of less than 1000 km^2, it will be safer to say that soccer is massive in roughly 3/4ths of the world

The young guys today, while they keep getting told just how important Magic and Larry were to the resurgence of basketball in the '80's, really have no idea. When the Lakers and the Celtics were scheduled for a game, there were days and days and days of coverage before the game was even played, and once game time came around, but cities were essentially shut down for those few hours. It was something you just had to experience to even begin to believe.

Nah man. Shaq was more talented for sure, but Laettner schooled him head to head. Grant Hill was only a sophomore in '92 and Laettner was better at that point. Laettner definitely deserved to be the college player selected. 4 final fours, player of the year, 2 national championships. In reality it should have been Isiah Thomas, but he was a dick that Jordan didn't want to play with or Dominique Wilkins who was out with I believe knee surgery. Maybe Joe Dumars, Mark Price, or Reggie Lewis? Olajuwon for sure, but he wasn't a citizen until '93.

Cutey Nurse IMO, he wasn’t blessed with Bird and Magic- he helped make the league about Bird and Magic. He would have done the same thing for Dr J and Kareem had he taken over years earlier. JohnnyDemarco I respect your opinion, but I just don’t agree. The anticipation of what Larry and Magic were going to do at the NEXT level was so high. Their feud stemmed from college and then transcended over to the BIG LEAGUES and they didn’t disappoint. Those 2 Icons TRANSFORMED and SAVED the NBA. No disrespect to the commish, but he was definitely BLESSED with those 2 guys coming into the league and continuing that rivalry and both having MAJOR success. MANY YEARS OF IT. 3:30 is proof that basketball meant something more to these men. I’ve seen Magic, MJ, and Bird all cry in game or interviews. This is Stockton tearing up at the thought of the team. It was something different then. Basketball was much more than what it is now. It’s so disappointing.

Exactly what im saying like players in 80s and 90s wanted to win way more than now,now its just statistics if you look at bad boys they are definition of wanting to win bad and MJ and Bird and Magic im young and i still say that people in 80s and 90s were way tougher than now physicaly and especialy mentaly,if rodman played today or laimbeer they would break every player mentaly, now everybody soft and its a fact

Luckily I was blessed to be a high school player and then going to college on a basketball scholarship during the height of the Larry Byrd/ Magic Johnson rivalry....it fueled me so much competitively...watching those two......I definitely would put them in the top five....many may not, but just listening to these two takes me back to a beautiful time in my life.....1978(sophomore in h.s., played college ball 80 to 84, that was same time I started taking note of Michael Jordan)....right now top three for me! Thanks for posting this...Larry Byrd was hilarious!

@@keithjoseph128 There would be a few names taken off and a few put on. You'd have Dr J and Kareem AJ right off the cuff but given some time, there are probably several others to consider. But yes, Bird would have been far healthier for starters.

@@billyboblillybob344 then they wouldn't have been better because those guys were all past their primes too. But yes, obviously Pippen wouldn't be on in 88 and Thomas possibly makes the team.

I couldn't help but get a little misty eyed. The men on that stage, in particular, Magic and Bird, made the 1980s the best decade of basketball of my life, no question about it. I surely miss it being played like it was then. I have to give a shout out to the players in the 60s and 70s, also.
