The amount of respect those two have for one another is just insane. They both won the gold medal as a youth and Magic knew that him and Larry were the best on that team, Magic won the NCAA championship with Michigan State, but knew that he had to play against Bird who single handily took Indiana State who had a way less talented team on and even almost pulled it off. Larry and Magic’s rookie years didn’t disappoint either as Larry won the ROY finishing just ahead of Magic and Magic winning one more championship than Larry just barely. These two guys are why the NBA is what it is today. They pushed one another to be better.

@@thebrazilianatlantis165 First of all you can’t compare Larry Bird to Kobe Bryant. Larry is a Forward and Kobe is a shooting guard. They both play different functions on the court. On the professional level Larry Bird play in an era where he has tough competition. Kobe played in an era where there were teams that had one Super Start player and the others were playing their roles. They weren’t good enough. The only reason why Kobe won championships because he was the poster boy of the Lakers and the Lakers kept giving Kobe the right players he needed in order to win Championships. Larry Bird was a team player and his passing skills speak for itself since you saw the highlights. Kobe was a selfish player and Centers didn’t want to play with him because frankly, Kobe didn’t passed the ball 🏀 to anybody! At a personal level Kobe was an adulterer. Larry Bird is not! *Magic & Larry,* resurrected the game of basketball......My dad loved basketball, but stopped watching, until the competition between Johnson & Bird was highlighted......What my Dad used to say, about Larry's game, is that it reminded him of someone, who was not only playing basketball, but also, volleyball, dodgeball, hockey, baseball, football, soccer, & strategic chess, all at the same time, and was what made him so great 😊He certainly was one of the most unique and gifted players, I have ever watched!

Larry is and has always been an idol of mine. His work ethic was second to none. I love Magic as well, and I just missed this rivalry as I was born in 91, but you better believe I've watched every game of every one of their finals as well as their NCAA championship game. Without these two the NBA would have flatlined and this wonderful sport wouldn't have seen so many of the legends we witness today,
