I was just thinking watching the video why not get sparkplug from underneath the truck. Instead

Great video. These plugs are a real turd to access if you dont have a swivel socket

Great video! Looks like this mostly works for the 2011 Ranger with the exception of the back passenger plug. Thank you

I gotta know why you're doing it again and why it's not good. Like you mention at 2:41. I have a 95 Ford Ranger and the thing blows spark plugs like once every 4-5 months. I've taken it to so many mechanics and they can't figure out why it breaks spark plugs so often. I'm going to change them myself tomorrow. Thanks for the tip!

Lol it was a cracked head/bad head gasket fouling them out. I actually just did the whole head job, and literally just uploaded the first part of the head build (Red Ranger Build! Pt. 10) to the channel. Check it out. But what do you mean by it “breaks” spark plugs lol

i learned from experience certain ranger motors will reject any plugs and wires that are not motorcraft. it will fowl them out like crazy. specially the 4.0 ohv.

I'm going to have to buy some of those wobble extensions. As for the anti seize debate, I just removed the plugs after 9 years of use without anti seize and no signs of corrosion on ngk plugs.

i use a sharpie marker to mark the wires on the red tip of wire with black marker. just write the plug # i keep a firing order diagram in my glove box to know what wire goes to what plug. i always use motorcraft plugs and wires cause i have the 4.0 ohv and this motor tends to fowl out any other brand and just rejects them if they not motorcraft. also motorcraft oil filter. i have had 3 rangers and an explorer. learned form experience.

Cast iron block on that generation of Ranger, yeah I'd use a bit of antisieze as well.

Have you ever had lifter problems? Apparently This engine is notorious for ticking, if so how would you fix it? Oil cleaner maybe?? Any help is appreciated
@TheOriginalBeeCee

Mine is a bit noisy from time to time. I actually have a complete new top end rebuild with new heads, gaskets, rods, lifters, etc. that I plan on doing to solve all the issues, as these 4.0L's are notorious for cracked heads, and I'm confident at least one of mine is. The head gasket issue is why I had to replace these plugs. The truck somehow still runs great, but I really need to stop being lazy and just do the little teardown and get it done.

I never thought about it to be honest, but I replaced the oil filter adapter O-rings on this thing & from what I remember with doing that is there wasn’t a lot of view or access in there, at least to really work in there anyway.

I have a '91 6 cylinder that I would love to do this myself but it looks too difficult for my back. I'm only getting 16 miles per gallon and I'm wondering what other people including yourself are getting?
@TheOriginalBeeCee
@TheOriginalBeeCee Жыл бұрын
If you pace yourself and maybe even stand on something to give you some elevation you might just be able to knock it out with minimal back issues. As far as gas mileage, I honestly have no clue. I only drive the truck about 5 miles at the most a day, so I never really bothered. I’ve really never bothered trying to ever figure out my gas mileage on any vehicle lol.

I just got a 97 4.0 for a work truck and it’s maybe getting 10 miles per gallon, I was watching this video because I’m gonna change the oil in it tomorrow and change the plugs this weekend, so far it’s burning fuel worse than a v8

alot of rangers dont get good gas mileage. it a flaw of the trucks. get u a towel to lay across the truck on and it will make it easier to work on. i have to do this cause i am short and it makes my back hurt if i don't . i stand on a nice solid wood stool.

Lol i said I wasn’t saying why 😅 but naaa the head is cracked/bad head gasket. Fouling out the plugs. I’ve had new heads, exhaust manifolds, gaskets, etc. huge pile of parts to do the job for a while, but I’ve just been lazy cause it still runs great lol. But i need to get to it.
