1993 Atlantic Hurricane Season Animation

The 1993 Atlantic hurricane season was a below average season, spawning only 10 tropical cyclones, 8 of which developed into tropical storms or higher. The strongest storm was Emily, peaking as a low-end Category 3 hurricane, making it the only major hurricane of the season. It was the first season since 1987 with no storm names retired.

Here's a fact about 1993 that I think is a bit peculiar: All the Atlantic Hurricanes that year were beaten in terms of pressure (though read: not wind!) by an extra-tropical low - the Braer Strom. I'm not sure how often that happens but the prospects of a non-tropical system being "deeper" than any Hurricane that forms in a given calendar year is something I doubt we'll be seeing again for a long time.

1993 and 2021 calendar-wise are very similar. Any historical events from 1993 fall on the same day as 2021 does. They are even positioned in the same area on the 28-year solar cycle.

@@MrGreenandPurple They all have one thing in common. They are all common years starting on Friday. However, on the 28-year solar cycle, they are in very different locations: 1993 -> 2021, 1999 -> 2027, and 2010 -> 2038. The names are different for the hurricane lists. For 1993 and 1999, it is Arlene, Bret, Cindy, Dennis... (List 3). For 2010, it's Alex, Bonnie, Colin, Danielle... (List 2). In 2021 and 2027's case, it is Ana, Bill, Claudette, Danny... (List 1).

Officially, Cyclone Yasa in the SPAC is the strongest storm of 2020 (by pressure). Goni is the strongest of 2020 by wind speed though (195mph)
