For me, as a kid, Blockbuster was an experience it was within walking distance of my family's house so we would walk there for fun. Then I would take next to forever to pick out a movie. It was my favorite thing to do so it really made me sad when that store closed down after netflix became popular.

Come weekends, it would be takeout and a couple of videos from Blockbuster! I loved it, always looked forward to Friday nights when I could run free through the video store, staring at the VHS cover art, agonizing over what two little videos I could rent, LOL. The horror section was my favorite; that's when I became a horror fan. That retro 70s, 80s, and 90s cover art was eye-popping, kind of lent to the whole movie-renting experience. SIGH. I miss those days sometimes!

@@RETROGEMS Same here! The horror section was the most forbidden section for me as a kid. No wonder I grew up to have such a huge horror collection. Their cover art was the best.

Some day, several centuries from now, when movies play on a chip in our brains, our descendants will look upon this archival footage and chuckle indulgently at the strange civilization we once had. "Square things....in cases...that one temporarily leased? LOL." Those were the days, though, man...I spent most of my Fridays up in the video stores renting horror movies and sneaking them past my family. Good times!

Most of these video stores are gone, but at least there's still Family Video.

"Videogames for kids" - I remember in the early 90s I was about 3 and my brother was 4 or 5 we had a Sega Genesis and we rented Mortal Kombat from Blockbuster. I will say it probably wasn't the best game for us to be playing at the time, and not long after that, the ESRB was created.

I feel old watching this. As a kid I looked forward to Friday night's and renting a movie from Blockbuster. Now I'm 26 and kids today have no idea what a VCR is or "be kind rewind" 😂 the worst was trying to fix a tape with the tracking.
