and it keeps sailing through MOTs apart from one issue - high emissions which is strange for a mondeo probably a knackered exhaust system

@khalithistle: It says "pioneered... for the cars most of us drive", i.e. not the Mercedes S-Class or Honda NSX. Of course it was Bosch who developed the system, etc.

@ZilogJones I think they mean the mechanical system for the MK 3 Escort which came out in the mid 80's. It really was the first time the general public had come into contact with ABS (I think it was called ALB then). Anyway, Ford invited a lot of customers to various test tracks to try it out. One test was to drive a non-ALB car with one side on grass and one on tarmac and try braking hard. Then they let you repeat with an ALB car. It was a good day out, from what I hear. :)

That was a two channel mechanical Bendix system.

The Mondeo Mk. I & II were sold in North America as the Ford Contour and Mercury Mystique albeit with numerous modifications (different body panels, etc.). The North American Focus Mk. I was by no means identical either - lights were significantly different to meet federal standards, and the base models had awful CVH engines, among other things.

Where the sporty models even any good? I know there was the 2.5 V6 but I'm guessing it had horrible torque steer

i hate these smooth looking shits. you cant customize one without making it riced. a stock mondeo is boooooooring!
