@the-quintessenz3 жыл бұрын
It also looked the same in 1981
@jmin84003 жыл бұрын
@@the-quintessenz No it didn't, do your research. Was redesigned as W463 in 1990 just like the J80 Land Cruiser, which is why Top Gear reviewed both in 1991 alongside the aging Range Rover. The original Geländewagen was designated as W460 in 1979 and was discontinued in 1991, replaced by W461. As an owner of them, gets very tiring how the average joe misses that and just comments anyhow without proper context.
@jmin84003 жыл бұрын
Skyemaster Well, it wasn't redesigned until 3 years ago and only had facelifts for 28 years, so of course it looked the same. 2019+ model is different, but of course most of you that don't buy them won't know that. Certainly isn't "exactly the same". ☻

Rusty Climber I’ve had RR’s and I agree about parts being expensive. That’s here in the UK. Reports show that over 60% of LR products are faulty which is horrendous. The thing is, If you get a good Range Rover, it’s brilliant and the best car you’ll ever drive as an all rounder, however the odds are stacked against the consumer. I’ve driven and owned a variety of cars from all over and still think when you get a decent RR that works, it’s the best.

A couple of years ago I bought a 1989 Range Rover and in that time I've become rather alarmed as it's been damn near faultless! I fear I may have to take it back to Lode Lane and get their engineers to check it over and reinstall some of that good old fashioned Land Rover unreliability. It is still an amazing car, today I trailered home an 8x6 shed, last month I was towing a ton bag of concrete and a mixer, it's my daily driver (apart from my Triumph Speed Triple but that would struggle to tow a ton) and I can truly say it is an amazing tool to own. It's one of those things than seems impractical but then you find out just how capable it is and use it far more than you think you would. The only downside is that it's a martyr to the drink but at least I get to enjoy that V8 noise through the sports pipe!

Well Toyota made them much nicer after this episode, by adding leather trim and the better engine in late 1992, better leather and dual airbags from 1995. Of course he jumped on it. Land Cruiser jumped up in both price and prestige starkly during the 90s, squandering it away in the later 2000s and 2010s. J200 was not as competitive in terms of luxury as the 80 and 100 were, in a smaller field of competition. By 1998, these nameplates were still the best to get in 4x4 luxury.

Its a shame British Leyland couldn't get their shit together and provide reliable cars. They had a bunch of interesting and very ahead of their time cars like the Range Rover. I mean that car came out in 1970, it was 20 years ahead of its time in terms of refinement. Keep in mind in 1970, 4wd SUV's were the tiny Ford Bronco, Jeep CJ-5, the Chevy K-5 Blazer, hell maybe the Jeep Wagoneer gave the Range Rover a run for its money in terms of similar space and refinement. But the Wagoneer was in a class of 1 in the American market, the Range Rover was kind of in a class of 1 in the world market until it was sold in the US in the 1980's, when it clobbered the Wagoneer in terms of refinement and being just modern.

Great observation, in a sea of mindless commentary. Back in the 80s, it was just Range Rover, Grand Wagoneer, and then 60-Series Land Cruiser for premium utilities. MB formally joined the higher end fray with the W463 lux variants in 1990 and LC 60-Series gave way to the J80/Lexus LX (post '95). Jeep handicapped itself with ZJ Grand Wagoneer (GC variant) not going far enough in execution and in being too mass market (less prestige). P38A brought RR into the contemporary world with better ergonomics, but was not very distinctive and had a much shorter shelf life, plus the reliability quotient likely worsened.
