Rusty Climber I’ve had RR’s and I agree about parts being expensive. That’s here in the UK. Reports show that over 60% of LR products are faulty which is horrendous. The thing is, If you get a good Range Rover, it’s brilliant and the best car you’ll ever drive as an all rounder, however the odds are stacked against the consumer. I’ve driven and owned a variety of cars from all over and still think when you get a decent RR that works, it’s the best.

@jmin8400 3 жыл бұрын
@@the-quintessenz No it didn't, do your research. Was redesigned as W463 in 1990 just like the J80 Land Cruiser, which is why Top Gear reviewed both in 1991 alongside the aging Range Rover. The original Geländewagen was designated as W460 in 1979 and was discontinued in 1991, replaced by W461. As an owner of them, gets very tiring how the average joe misses that and just comments anyhow without proper context.

A couple of years ago I bought a 1989 Range Rover and in that time I've become rather alarmed as it's been damn near faultless! I fear I may have to take it back to Lode Lane and get their engineers to check it over and reinstall some of that good old fashioned Land Rover unreliability. It is still an amazing car, today I trailered home an 8x6 shed, last month I was towing a ton bag of concrete and a mixer, it's my daily driver (apart from my Triumph Speed Triple but that would struggle to tow a ton) and I can truly say it is an amazing tool to own. It's one of those things than seems impractical but then you find out just how capable it is and use it far more than you think you would. The only downside is that it's a martyr to the drink but at least I get to enjoy that V8 noise through the sports pipe!

Who gives a flying dickhole that the interiors have better quality than the cherokee, it's fucking off-road, no one gives a shit about better plastics or leather, and if you even wanted better quality and leather, go by a Cherokee limited rather than a sport or classic models. That and the 4.0 engine and vehicle will outlast your typical Range Rover. It's just a legendary off road vehicle and there is a reason why we the people customize them.

You can perfectly buy and register those cars in EU, however it would turn out to be a very costly endeavour as they sort of want to punish you for getting one. the real beauty of it all is that opinions in reviews don't have to match the numbers, and the fact that his opinion is still valued speaks volumes...not every reviewer (cars, games, movies...) has to agree, because you don't formulate an opinion based on only one of them...in fact, I'll go as far as to say that to evaluate a product you NEED both people who are biased and unbiased. Well Toyota made them much nicer after this episode, by adding leather trim and the better engine in late 1992, better leather and dual airbags from 1995. Of course he jumped on it. Land Cruiser jumped up in both price and prestige starkly during the 90s, squandering it away in the later 2000s and 2010s. J200 was not as competitive in terms of luxury as the 80 and 100 were, in a smaller field of competition. By 1998, these nameplates were still the best to get in 4x4 luxury.

Its a shame British Leyland couldn't get their shit together and provide reliable cars. They had a bunch of interesting and very ahead of their time cars like the Range Rover. I mean that car came out in 1970, it was 20 years ahead of its time in terms of refinement. Keep in mind in 1970, 4wd SUV's were the tiny Ford Bronco, Jeep CJ-5, the Chevy K-5 Blazer, hell maybe the Jeep Wagoneer gave the Range Rover a run for its money in terms of similar space and refinement. But the Wagoneer was in a class of 1 in the American market, the Range Rover was kind of in a class of 1 in the world market until it was sold in the US in the 1980's, when it clobbered the Wagoneer in terms of refinement and being just modern.

Great observation, in a sea of mindless commentary. Back in the 80s, it was just Range Rover, Grand Wagoneer, and then 60-Series Land Cruiser for premium utilities. MB formally joined the higher end fray with the W463 lux variants in 1990 and LC 60-Series gave way to the J80/Lexus LX (post '95). Jeep handicapped itself with ZJ Grand Wagoneer (GC variant) not going far enough in execution and in being too mass market (less prestige). P38A brought RR into the contemporary world with better ergonomics, but was not very distinctive and had a much shorter shelf life, plus the reliability quotient likely worsened.

+jacob harford I have a 2001 Cherokee and it is so much fun to drive and the engine makes all of that torque in the bottom end. Since it makes all of it's power on the bottom end, regular driving is always around a VERY LOW 1500 rpms a decent speed. It hits the rev limiter at 6000 rpms and it sounds like a BMW inline 6 on steroids. 😆 It's just cool to think that you can hit the maximum torque on the 4.0 without even trying.

Which was the EP that had 3 4x4 tested by toffs and they all got stuck and had to be pulled out by a digger. And they had an old land rover series 1 I think that was the only one to make it up the hill.

South African-born explorer Mike Horn ran a leg of his 'Pole2Pole' expedition from Birdsville through the Simpson Desert in a convoy of G-Wagens, 6 of the 7 vehicles that attempted the Canning broke down and they actually had charter a plane to fly parts in lol Canning van be done in a '83 landcruiser with no issues - not a huge achievemt compared to the bloke in the Lada Niva that got through without an issue plenty old landcruisers and patrols do this trip without issue never seen a rover out there

Unfortunately the land cruisers last tax expired Sept 1994. The G Wagons last tax expired in Jan 1993 and the RR no longer has any details held on the database. Of course they could be on private plates if still alive.

Out of the three, Land cruiser is the most reliable vehicle.... it can take you anywhere and being sure of getting back. they also have big interior space for a driver and passengers of any size and its looks good externally also and it can be owned even by a lazy person as it's not very sensitive vehicle compared to the other. But when we talk about speed, stability, efficiency in rough roads ( 4WD ) and prestige.... the other two are the best (G class & Range rover), also the owner is required to be smart ( on time proper service & handling) in order to maintain them for a longer period. i current own RR classic but my heart is owned by G wagon.

anyone notice that it takes a little bit longer for the Range Rover to start each time, and it also pisses out white smoke from the exhaust where the other two don't? Having said that I would probably take the Range Rover over the Toyota Yawn-Box and the Mercedes Look-at-me Trophy.

My humble preference goes to the Range Rover, plain and simple, just because it 's so stunningly beautifull. I am very sorry to see Jeremy driving it like a teenager in a very pedantic way. That is with loads of throttle, where a gentle passage would be so much more 'English'. :-)

@desimunda116 u can grab a 1985 old 280GE or 1992 300GE like the one Jeremy drove above, and u still end up having the same interior space, windows, wheelbase, wheelspace, cabin, trunk, engine room and doors like today's 130,000 dollars G55 AMG.

i'm not saying that MB (G wagon) or Land Rover (Range Rover) don't know how to build a SUV to be reliable under extreme conditions, its that they know about 99% of the people who buy their SUVs will NEVER take it off road so they don't bother...
