Raced mountain bikes from 1990 to 2000 in the Kentucky State Championship series . All these guys were awesome . I actually have a 1994 Jonh Tomac Titanium Raleigh just like the one he's racing in this video . I just restored it . I even found a set of original John Tomac signature grips in clear just like the ones that came on the bike , found them in the Netherlands new in the box . I'm 63 and still race once in a while . I was a big Tinker fan as well , especially when he raced for Klein . I raced on Kleins east coast support team in the late 90s . Loved the 90s era mountain biking . Happy to see others that liked it as well .

Awesome story thanks for sharing that, yes it was an amazing time the 90's, the UK & World scene was growing so fast and changing all the time....

I never thought I'd see footage from the era when I started reading magazines and taking riding seriously! Thank you for posting this. "Cracking."

I am, still have three Klein's. Had one custom made after a car wiped out my Klein Quantum road bike with me on it. The custom road bike only says KLEIN on the frame. Superb craftsmanship! I used to photograph the Cactus Cup in AZ and it was there that I met Sara Ellis and Tinker Juarez when they were still riding for Klein. Tinker and Sara are the nicest people ever! Back then they didn't have any real support from Klein and had to rely on the fans and the generosity of the competitors support trailers to help out. I also got to know his mother who would always be there too. She shared some of Tinkers history and is a wonderful lady!

Me! Fat Chance Yo Eddy! In the small size it doesn’t look so spindly like the large sizes did and doesn’t look quite so out of date like most from that era.

Bridgestone MB2. 1990. A combination of original and era correct components.

I think my newest bike is a 2001 Brodie Unibomber. I still have cromo 1 inch KHS montana pro, specialized hardrock 1 inch, DX u brake steel Karakoram GT, Alberta Canada made TECH, 97 Kona Caldera, and a Brodie Quantum , Hardrock steel 1/8th steerer and a brand new high tensile steel Huffy i got from a moving family for free . all it needed was a new rear derailleur as it was strung wrong chainwise so it ripped off on first ride. Then aluminum frames are.......

That brings back memories. I raced that course on a 700c prototype Bianchi with prototype Rockshocks. I was also on prototype white tires from Panaracer. I think they were 1.9's. Crazy what we did back then. Tomac was my hero.

04:32 Johny and Tinker with Grafton brakes.Loved them. Once I owned 2 pairs of the blue 3 hole cantilever, very hard to adjust them correct :)

Great race. Was that TOMAC the only one pedaling through the rocks? Win racing was real racing. We got DH pretty soon we'll have Up Hill racing with High Tec E- bike's. Still going strong iOS my, 94 Balance XR-35 🏁

Still would like to know what happened to Tinker in the '96 Olympics
@danmoney99324 жыл бұрын
He was 35 and said in an interview that he just didn't handle the pressure well (first MTB at the Olympics and on home soil). The whole US cycling team had a pretty shit Olympics as far as I recall.
@tin888ke3 жыл бұрын
rumor had it that by 96 performance-enhancing drugs were taking over Mtn Biking and Tinker rode clean which put him at a huge disadvantage.

Cut off jersey. Only the 90s. Marzocchi, manitou and rock shox were the forks being used in that era, maybe. lawill and pro flex
@keirfarnum68113 жыл бұрын
I noticed the cut off arms on the jersey too! I knew a few guys who did that. Never went in for it myself.

Why did we get rid of bar ends? If you watch any of these races, everyone seems to use them
@CyclingWorld1 Жыл бұрын
More leverage & steering control I understand nowadays 🤔
@thomasandrews80336 ай бұрын
I don't think we got rid of bar ends, they just weren't deemed cool anymore. But you are right, more leverage and climbing control but more importantly a different place to put your hands so you are more comfortable on long xc rides. I still use them and always will.
