Early-mid 90's was a good time for hockey, living in Ottawa you could watch 6 teams on cable, Nords on channel 5, Sens channel 6, Habs channel 11, Leafs on global (3), Sabres on Fox (36) Bruins on NESN (48)! And the games on CBC (8) and TSN (30)!

That’s the Montreal media! You’re only as good as your last performance! (Unless your last name ends in Lafleur or Richard)! Even Ken Dryden said that in 1979 before the playoff run he felt that his days were numbered…. And he won 6 cups in 8 seasons!!! The day that Dryden joined the Habs, Vachon and Worsley were tossed away like yesterday’s newspaper; and both Vachon and the Gumper won multiple cups for the Habs :) :)

They were good, unlike the goalies of today who just go into the butterfly with their huge pads.
@brianlb78
@brianlb78 2 жыл бұрын
@@dftmmwgitd I kind of agree with this. Now the thing is to find the biggest goalie you can find, have him drop to his knees constantly and even push side to side while on his knees and put as big of chest protector as you can legally get a away with. It seems like the skill in goaltending has gone away some compared to previous years. I don't think there is a single goalie under 6' tall in the NHL right now. Before that is what most where. Very agile and acrobatic back in the day, not so much anymore.

Awesome game, I'm a die hard fan of the Habs and ever since I've seen this two goals against Patrick Roy, I know it sounds silly but it always pops in my mind since that game, it seems like he let both goals in on purpose, I know it's not true.

Why did Hextall do that thing so often of rushing way out to cut down the angle? Did it ever work for him? It's one thing to play at the top of the crease like Richter used to, but there's no good reason to come way out into the middle of the faceoff circle unless the other team paid you off or something :/ Fiset was a better goalie IMO.

@@329woody The Nords should have gone to Fiset after Game 4. As a young team, the one thing they needed to count on was having sufficient goaltending. And Hextall just didn't give him that. He did have good stats through the first four games, but it wasn't going to be sustainable.

Terrible goaltending from Ron Hextall during this series and it cost the Quebec Nordiques a heavy price. The 1993 Nordiques may have been young and green, but they still had more talent than the Montreal Canadiens with the exception of their goaltender. In playoff hockey, the most important player on any team are the goaltenders.
@pomerlain8924

Yep, it was thought that maybe after Game 3, and definitely after Game 4, that they should have made the change to Fiset. Hextall had the credentials with his Conn Smythe and great years in Philly, but he was not at that same level in this series.
