THIS is the 1993 Porsche 962. I found this car at Champion Porsche here in Pompano Beach, FL, which has one of the most insane collections of Porsche street cars and race cars you might find outside of Stuttgart. This particular 962 has been sitting in place for 15 years and has just 1 mile on the odometer! It’s one of 6 ever made, and it’s street legal. Today I’m going to go over the quirks and features of this incredibly rare Porsche. Then I’m to take it on a leisurely ride and give it a Doug score. One of the most interesting quirks about this Porsche 962 is this button on the dashboard. It changes the engine mapping and increases power from a “mere” 550hp to eight-hundred-and-fifty horsepower. If you’ve ever been driving around town in your Porsche and thinking, Gee this car could really use another 300hp, well Porsche has that covered for you with this button.

neverendingmods Better in black? PUHleeze! This car reminds me solid black(& white to a degree) on curvy cars like this w/intricate design details makes it very tough to even SEE them. I can assure black is NOT the ideal color for THIS car! I actually caught the entire loading process of a silver 962 CR on video at the close of the '92 Daytona 24 Hrs. Silver isn't even my color, but the absolutely breathtaking shape of the 962CR was loud & clear. This black example you frankly can't hardly see a damn thing. I got the sense it was a very special car & shot accordingly, but had NO idea it would ultimately be so rare. It was pre-HD days, but shot w/very good Hi8 camera & is now converted digital. Clearly they were very careful as it lasts well over 5 min. & meanwhile I shot all the design nuances of it as it vanished into its "lair". And yes it smoked just like this one! These cars are meant to run near wide open 24 hrs, & suspect like the 917 oil is a crucial part of cylinder cooling which may explain this. Need to put on KZbin one day for other motorheads to enjoy - what a special car!

Keep your Testarossas and your Coutaches... This is all I wanted when I was a teenager!
@aussiebloke6096 жыл бұрын
Yeah well...the Testarossa road car (not the '50s racer car) was started - and therefore most popular with teenagers - in '84 , and the Countach in '74. With this '93 Porsche being 10-20 years younger respectively, its really no comparison. And the people who had Countach posters on the wall as teenagers sure weren't teenagers any more when this came out. On the other hand...consider the design of most cars on the road in the early '70s...then look at the Countach...and you'll see why it was so popular. Sporty, aerodynamic-looking cars were becoming more common by the '90s, so while this is a very nice design, it didn't make such a grand splash on the public consciousness as the Countach did - even if the Countach wasn't really all that fast or handle all that well.
@bennyhannover93616 жыл бұрын
Nothing against Testarossa, but this car uses the chassis of a 962 Porsche which was the evolution of the Porsche 956 that started first time in 1982 at le mans and it won between 1982 and 1987 six times Le Mans. In 1983 with team Vern Schuppan, Al Holbert and Hurley Haywood. The Porsche works team started in 1982 with Jochen Mass, Jacky Ickx, Derek Bell and Jean Louis Schlesser. So when Testarossa came as a production sportscar. This prototype racing had won already 3 Le Mans races and two world championships in sportscar Racing as well for driver and for the marque Porsche. And it did win again in 1994. By the way if I can believe in Brian Long these CR Cars were produced in 1991.

962 CR refers to the based car (962C indicating Group C compliant 962 rather than IMSA version). R stands for Road. The car was supposed to be marketed worldwide, they even plan to crash test it to make it US compliant. But the money runs out and he went broke.

@malcolmi16 жыл бұрын
The interior shot of the transmission shifter showed us why - it's a stripped-down interior, built for racing.
@CannibalSoggoth6 жыл бұрын
maybe because there was nothing to show, these cars don't really have anything inside, just a seat a shifter and a steering wheel, the racing models would have the ECUs there, but really they've always been empty, kept to be entirely functional
