This is going to be the first of a long line of videos that will chronicle my adventures with getting this "beater" GTX on the water. The goal is to spend little to no $$$. As you can see from the video, this boat is in rough shape. The first task is to try and separate the driveshaft from the seal carrier bearing, which is a needle style bearing.

I just picked up 99 gtx limited. Had the carrier bearing set-up. Can i switch to carbon seal?

any idea how I can get seal carrier off drive shaft while still in the boat i have a 1995 sportster. Seal carrier seized onto shaft got everything else off. trying to replace everything. Can't get it off... Any tips? thanks for the videos

Aluminum reacts almost instantly to heat, touch it for 20 seconds with a propane torch while having a friend on the other end to yank the driveshaft out. I had some good success with this approach. Did you try that yet ?

I have a very beginner question. Would this cause cavitation? Also wondering if you have a video of proper winterization for this model. I just got two of these skis and they both have cavitation pretty bad. Also wondering how to properly winterize them. (I’m hoping the previous owner did that correctly)

That a good question actually. If the seal carrier is damaged it could potentially draw air through the hull of your seadoo while its running and cause cavitation, BUT you would probably notice that your seadoo was sinking before you noticed any cavitation issues, so I don't think your cavitation would be caused by this. A certain degree of cavitation is always present while riding 90's era skis, but it sounds like you migt have a worn wear ring in your pump. Check my channel for pump refurbishing vids, I'll post one here for you. kzbin.info/www/bejne/g6a3eaOom9Jlock

Could this bearing cause the engine not to spin/turn over

Hello KRBIN. If your driveshaft has seized in the seal carrier bearing, cranking your engine will cause the seal carrier and rubber hose to turn as one unit on the through hull fitting. The only thing stopping that seal carrier bearing and rubber hose turning on the PVC through hull fitting would be a hose clamp. I highly doubt the hose clamp would be tight enough to stop your engine turning over, however, every circumstance is different. If the bearing is seized on the crankshaft, you really don;t want it turning anyways, because it will likely burn up the through hull fitting and basically melt it off with friction, and then your SeaDoo will be open to the lake, and you'll sink pretty quickly. I would check your jet pump to make sure you have no obstructions preventing it from turning. Other than that, there are so many things that can prevent an engine from turning over, I really don't think this bearing is likely your case though, thats my intution.

@@UOttawaScottyall last summer it idled rough but when giving it gas it ran fine and didnt fire up unless i gave it trottle
