Bought my Yamaha HTR-5280 in July 2000. I have been using it daily for 22 years and absolutely love it. The only problem with it? The digital volume knob does not work, can only adjust volume with remote (still using original remote too!). Yep, loving my old school receiver, God bless.

I just fixed a non-working Pioneer VSX-D1S. Man that amp is a monster, puts modern home theater amps to shame. It's rated 130 a channel but seen ppl test it to output around 180 a channel. I need to recap mine as there's a bit of a hum but 90s home theater amps are crazy.

Man I must of bought 7 or 8 different RX-V models back in the day. Good A/V receivers but they are so old now. I sold them all off and bought a modern A/V receiver to watch movies. When I want to listen to music I prefer a good stereo integrated amp, a power amp, or a vintage stereo receiver from the '70's.

At one point bought a yahama receiver to replace the pioneer but it was very under powered. So I went back to the 505s (rated 135 watts x4). I have since added 2 klipsche 12in powered subwoofers (300rms/600 max). Have an onkyo EQ as well. Old school for the win

I inherited a harmon kardon reciever about 18 years ago, it's always sounded incredible, I bought 3 kicker xpl 10's in a box about 14 years ago, pawn shop deal, 8 ohms apiece, hooked them to the harmon, not much happened, so I thought hmmm, ill try parallel "just temporary" one channel, 2.5 ohms, sounded good, other channels to mids/highs, sounded really good, I litterly left it that way until just the other night when I finally handed my subwoofer duties over to an old carver pt-1250, but it ran like that all this time, movies, music, moderate volumes, totally impressed with this old harmon..

@volvo09
@volvo09 2 жыл бұрын
Unless the power supply is under sized, you shouldn't see much of a measurable difference running less channels. Not a scenario you are going to encounter too often in quality equipment. In a real low end reciever you could see some increase, but it's really not much.
@jmiller007
@jmiller007 2 жыл бұрын
@@volvo09 oh it absolutely will be using an uderspec'd psu, almost all entry to mid level yamahas do. My rxv630 would drop to less than half the rated power with all channels driven, which is why they only ever rated them at 2 channel output.
@NathanOakley1980
@NathanOakley1980 2 жыл бұрын
@@wal2 yes I agree, this was a perfect test for this amp. What I mean is, can you test a 4 channel amp (as you do, all channels loaded) then show the difference when only 2 of the 4 are driven. The reasons is: A) it shows why you do it and the difference in measurement if you don’t B) it shows how current A/V amps will deliver less power/more power when all channels are loaded vs 2 channel. Many AV amps lie and drive only one channel in the ratings. The rating is accurate but you rarely ever have a mono movie. Also it serves as an explanation as to why av amps sound thin with all channels loaded. Lastly, I use a 4 channel amp and I only drive 2 channels. I’d love to know what kind of difference it makes when you only drive 2 of 4 channels.

Ever since AV receivers got TV inputs and monitor output, many set up the features are only adjustable from TV screen. I have Denon from mid 2000s, 9ch beast which had fried rear channels, but I use it only as stereo amp for my digital sources. It has some interesting features, plenty of juice for AV receiver but runs very warm. No sub out in stereo mode, and crossover only set for 80Hz, which kind of sucks.

@@wal2 i understand my prized possession what my Yamaha rx 2090 with a ddp-1. The ddp-1 was as big as a mid level receiver itself and the only thing it did was decode ac-3 5.1 and nothing else for the low low price of $600 . Then the future came along and turned it all into a paper weight with it's hdmi cables, hd tv, 7.1, 9.1, 11.1, wifi, Bluetooth, USB drives and 30 different formats of audio decoding. Awhile back I had a yamaha rx-v671 that I lost the remote to it and learned that you could not get to 95% of the settings without it. And to add to the frustration you have to have the exact remote that came with that and the model above it making it one of the rarest yamaha remotes

Never had a chance to fix it myself and ended up giving it to a random craigslist stranger that said he could fix it. Hopefully he brought new life to it. I'm sporting a 2018 Onkyo 686 now that has Dolby Atmos and DTS-X, as well as all the streaming services capability. @@wal2 that would probably be the hmdi board. the boards failed due to heat when you used the hdmi pass through to power other items. disabling that feature usually prevents that from happening. Onkyo underrated their amps at the time. i still have mine, it definitely puts out more than 135RWMS at 8ohms. i only ever saw two tests for the sr805, they measured ~175WRMS and 183WRMS @ 1%THD, 20hz-20khz, in to 2 channels. the latter test did a bench with all 7 channels driven and it STILL managed 150RWMS. i would love to see the 805 or 875 belting out 300wrms+ at 4 ohms, lol. the specs for the sr805 and 875 can be found on the onkyo website still. google "tx-sr805 7 channel" and it should be the 5th result.

I wish I could see you test a Sony DA777ES. When I compared my Yamaha rx3000 to my 777 Sony I noticed it uses almost the exact same massive Tkk transformer, the part numbers are one digit off!! The RXV3000 uses the same amp section as the RXV2095 that's documented to do over 400 watts dynamic power!! The Sony 777ES is also a beast it's got that same transformer with instead dual rectifiers and dual parallel transistors what definitely seems to outperform my RXV3000 on a listening test🎧 If only I had my own amp lab to definitively tell with numbers🤓

@@wal2 it sounds pretty good curently I have them hooked up with a pair of pioneer tower speakers a pioneer subwoofer with onkyo speakers as surrounds.... But in my opinion the best receivers I've owned would be 80s JVC cleanest highest channel power I've gotten out of amplifiers I've heard. I've owned many over the years at one time I had a stack of 3 with 2 15 inch optimus towers 2 pionner double 10 towers with a pair of 8 inch infinity book shelf speakers and a alpine type r 10 1st gen.... GOD DAMN speak about sound it was so crystal clear. The bass was nice warm and toned it shook your ribs and the vocals where so loud and clear it vibrated your ribs... Totally regret not keeping that setup.....
