Hey Man, Just wanted to thank you! your video´s been very helpful to me. I have an Accord 95 and it was overheating when i went on the feeway, but it cooled down when i stopped... I took out the thermostat (was broken) and cleaned all the system. Then i refilled the cooland and bled it. My car works perfectly fine now. My thanks from Argentina!

Thanks. Nice video, your explanation helped a lot in doing the same job (95 Accord EX). Just a few notes: I found it just as easy to open up the air box like I was changing the air filter rather than removing the whole air box. Bonus, you can clean debris out of the air box and inspect/change the air filter while you have access. There were a few minor differences in connections between what was shown and my experience, but that is to be expected, and it did not pose a problem. Also, I chose to remove the radiator hose from the thermostat housing first. You can clean up the mating surfaces a little easier that way. Finally, when reinstalling the thermostat housing, I held the housing in place against the engine until I had hand-tightened both bolts to retain it to ensure that the gasket did not pop out of the recess.

So I bought a 1995 Accord EX... And at least right there where the housing bolts to the rest of the engine block. The people at the dealership said that they had replaced the thermostat as part of a preventive maintenance so they could sell the car. here in the Arizona heat coolant gets hot and I noticed that it is actually leaking from that spot where the housing meets the block, and I also noticed that there is some sort of blue gasket material in between the housing and the block and so I'm wondering if that is may be the cause of leak? Is it right to assume that you shouldn't use an extra gasket for that housing that the thermostat gasket itself is sufficient? I can't imagine why they decided it was a good idea to add that gasket if it originally never had one to begin with but people do silly things what do you think?

But when I drove the car for not even 5 minutes the car started running hot. I'm not sure if maybe I didn't burp the radiator well enough. Or if it's the thermostat. Hi I have a Accord 95 and I think the radiator fan is not working properly because I don´t hear it working when I drive for a couple miles. But the gauge temp is well. I got worried about that What do that fan work, the thermostat, the temp sensor or both...When the radiator fan start work? I enjoy a lot your videos.
@funbrothers963 жыл бұрын
can ask why you changed the thermostat? was it overheating? is the sensor for the fans due for change ?
@oorreeoo8 жыл бұрын
Very helpful, thanks. But when I popped the fan switch off with the screwdriver, I think it broke off more than expected. After removing the plug, all I saw were two prongs sticking up with no circular housing around it. Now the plug just rests on the prongs, but not snap tight. Will this be okay as long as the fans work, or does the fan switch now need to be replaced? - Thx!
@NutzAboutBolts8 жыл бұрын
if it works then it should be already, if it looks easy and cheap to replace the fan switch, then I would go that route too.

Hi. I live in Puerto Rico and here its very regular to remove the thermostat and no place a new one. It's this ok? Whats the Pros and cons? Thank you...
@NutzAboutBolts8 жыл бұрын
+Javier Torres If you don't replace the thermostat, over time it'll go bad and won't open or stay open. If it stay closed, it'll overheat your engine and you'll get a blown head gasket. If its stuck open, your engine won't heat up properly and you'll run the engine cold and that's not good either.

Do you know if the two temperature sensor of honda accord 95 are the same?
@tedhohl55732 жыл бұрын
95 Accord EX here. I would think not. I just changed out the temperature gauge sensor and did my thermostat as just preventative maintenance. There are at least four temperature sensors I am aware of, and they all serve different functions, and would have different set points. The Honda part list shows them as different part numbers all, so that should be good enough reason to think they are not the same. Honda will use the same part number if they are truly duplicate items. The two most obvious ones are the one on the thermostat housing and the one on the other housing toward the front of the motor (the large radiator hoses go to these two housings). Right behind the front housing, is the temperature gauge sender, and just behind that is another temperature-related sensor/switch. They are tucked in there and not convenient to access.

So, my car overheats when I blast the AC on level 3 & 4, sometimes 2. I can have it on 1 and it'll be fine. I just recently tinted my windows dark so it helps keep the hot ass Arizona sun out lol you think it might be the thermostat? Or what might it be? Thanks in advance
@NutzAboutBolts8 жыл бұрын
have you done any maintenance on your vehicle? its possible it could be the thermostat, but it can also be the fan or the ECT... If you want to check if its the thermostat, boil the water to 180 degree or so, and drop the thermostat in the water and see if it opens up. If it opens up, its working properly, if its stuck closed, then its a bad thermosta....

My car does not read any temperature, how do I know if it's this or temperature sensor?
@jeffreydhill5 жыл бұрын
I just had that problem and fixed it. If the gauge isn't reading anything or it reads way off, its likely the temperature sending unit (not the same as the temperature sensor in this car). Its the 1-wire sensor in the side of the engine block just next to the temperature sensor (which has a 2 wire connector).

so i have a 94 accord EX and both radiator fans aren't turning on. the fuse is still good so im starting to think its the thermostat. how would i know for sure that my thermostat isnt working? the needle on the temperature guage seems to work but never gets above half-way, but my engine feels way warmer than normal and my fans dont turn on. yesterday, i was replacing a coolant hose so i tried to burp the radiator to get all the air out. i expected a lot of bubbles to come up into the funnel but only a few small ones did and thats when i realized my fans werent working. any advice?

KeeeFy No, th A/C does hasnt gotten cold since i got the car, i will have to look up some videos on how to check that. thank you. would that also affect my fans?
@NutzAboutBolts7 жыл бұрын
Do the fan test like in our video to make sure the fan's are working properly. does your upper and lower radiator hose get hot to the touch when idle after 20-25 mins? if so, your thermostat is working. Does your temp gauge moves gradually and stay at the middle? or is it stuck in the middle and doesn't move gradually when it gets hot? is your coolant 50/50?
@NutzAboutBolts7 жыл бұрын
Your AC is a separate system from the engine cooling system. If your A/C isn't getting cold, I would get the AC system check for leaks, or low refrigerant. Make sure the AC system is working properly.
@JackTheGinger47 жыл бұрын
i havent felt the lower radiator hose, i felt the upper one when i was bleeding my radiator and it was getting warm. ill check the lower hose though. i use 50/50 coolant and there is extra coolant in the reservoir still, the guage slowly rises as my car warms up so viually, it appears to be working. it never goes over the halfway mark on the guage. i was also thinking it could be the radiator fan switch? i will test the fans, the fact that both of them were out is what made me think it might be the switch or relay/fuse.
@JackTheGinger47 жыл бұрын
theres no coolant leaking or anything and i havent had to add coolant to the reservoir since i got it and when i opened my radiator to burp it, there was coolant all the way to the top and it appeared to be clean so my coolant seems to be circulating, im just trying to pinpoint the issue

And radiator but car still keeps heating up if I'm sitting at a red light to temperature goes up I press on the gas the temperature goes down as long as I'm going cars cooling off but as soon as the car is at idle the temperature shoots up anybody know a fix
@NutzAboutBolts7 жыл бұрын
any engine light? a failed water pump can cause overheating of the engine as well. Does the Radiator fan turns on when the engine is hot? if the fan doesn't turn on, it could be the engine coolant temperature not working as well. You can test the fan like in our video to a 12v to make sure its working properly, if it is, you want to check the ECT sensor next to see if that is working properly, if it is, it should turn the radiator fan on. If those work, I would suspect it could be a water pump issue.
