Hint hint, since the new 2018 chassis was unveiled, it is reminiscent to the old cart days, particularly the over the drivers head roll bar... it looks like a champ car, plus they are widening indianapolis again with the apron, if they bring all of that back together with the delta force theme song from the 90s for the 500.... I... I wouldnt even be able to process how awesome that would be....

This was truly the golden age of IndyCar and AOWR. The Villeneuve/Matsushita crash was very scary, but I remember being hugely impressed with the structural integrity of the cars to allow all the drivers to walk away without serious injury. A true testament to the quality of these cars at the time.

I miss that era when F1 and IndyCar was nearly the same
@fordfocusonme7 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure what you mean by "nearly the same" but today's Indycar is probably closer to F1 car in a while. The amount of downforce and I would argue the overall power is probably similar. A month ago an Indycar representative said that one of the first test of the Chevy aero kits at the Circuit of Americas would have placed the Indy Car right in the middle of the F1 grid on the same track. If that's not impressive I don't what is. Not bad for a car that cost millions less and that weighs something like 200 lbs more.

@raiderbelacasa7 жыл бұрын
That your fordfocusonme answer is very interesting. Do you mean that the DW12 with the average speeds in the circuit used by Formula 1 could get in the middle of the grid? When both categories ran in Montreal between 2002 and 2007, they did several comparatives and the Indy drivers could not get close to the last one, now they would be in the middle of the grid? If they fool around in a while, will they be ahead of the Formula One if they take another test then?
@fordfocusonme7 жыл бұрын
I don't know how much you follow Indycar but the DW12 with the new aero kit has been setting lap records all over the United States. Even the tracks records from CART's 1000 HP days were broken at places like Mid Ohio. Some people say it's because the tracks were resurfaced but even that along wouldn't account for the speeds. Its not really that the DW12 has more horsepower but it uses that power and the downforce more effectively. I remember when F1 first came with the V6 turbo engine they were actually falling behind in times by 2-4 seconds depending on the track. I heard that deficient has been erased due to stronger engines and kinetic systems. So if someone were to take a F1 and Indycar and raced them today the difference might be greater but not as much as people think. Both series are progressing with their cars and each year more horsepower and use of aero is found.

Something I never noticed about JV's accident at 40:59 is that Dominic Dobson LAUNCHES over the rear of his car and flies through the air.
@dezinguy6 жыл бұрын
I was at that race back in 1994. We were at the top of the Turn 4 stands, and Dominic Dobson almost looked like a rocket flying over JV's car. It was a pretty frightening crash. From where we were sitting, Michael Andretti's tire in the later crash, looked like a football flying through the air. YIKES!!

@nathanwilliams21529 ай бұрын
On another day, both they and Paul Tracy would have been killed (Paul Tracy was hit by the engine / gearbox as he was getting out of his car). At the very least Villeneuve would have broken both his legs in the pre-1993 chassis, like Jeff Andretti at Indy in '92. Nigel Mansell said that God was definitely watching over those three drivers that day - it was a miracle that no-one was seriously hurt.

Why wasn't Mansell penalized when he left the pit out lane, drove straight through the grass, and ended up directly in front of the cars on the track almost causing a major accident. CART played favorites to international drivers as that was the direction they wanted the series to go. International tracks and drivers. If you ever seen a IRL race on a 1.5 mile oval you would see a better race than the Indy 500 or Michigan or even Pocono. Mid Ohio and 3 Indy Formula One's that were really boring. As a veteran of 6 Indy 500's, a Michigan, 3 Charlotte's, Mid Ohio, 3 Indy F 1's and Richmond the IRL put on a much better show.
