Warren Sapp and Ray Lewis on the same defense. DAMN
@kelbob0026 күн бұрын
Yup. And that defense almost held off that juggernaut of an offense of Nebraskas in the Orange Bowl that year. Nobody played that Nebraska team in 94 & 95 that close Miami. Miami’s offense was just average that year.

Costa was not up to the standard of Miami QB’s during this era. He was ok, however he wasn’t a difference maker that we had in Kelly, Kosar, Testerverti, Walsh, Erickson, and Toretta. He just didn’t step up and make big plays.

This was Florida State's only loss by 14 or more points from September 1988 to January 1997.

Well, they didn't lose many period in that span. In fact, in their 14-year run, 1987-2000,, other than the 31-0 loss to Miami in 1988 and the 52-20 loss to Florida in the Sugar Bowl following the 1996 season, their biggest loss was that ugly 24-7 loss at NC State in 1998. It was an incredible dynasty. I hate that Bowden only got two National Championships out of it. But, he played a killer schedule each year. Each year from 1992 on - 8 ACC games, plus Miami and Florida, and then non-conference games vs Notre Dame in 1993-94, USC in 1997-98, Kickoff games vs Texas A&M and BYU in 1998 & 2000. Shoot, when they did have a games against lesser foes, in 1996 it just happened that Southern Miss was top 25 when they played and in 1999 LaTech had their best team ever, which upset an eventual SEC-Champion Alabama in Birmingham. And their schedules as an independent weren't slouch schedules either!

@@tmarsh0307 2 national titles in 15 year span of top 4 finishes is a tremendous run just short of a dynasty lol they went 2-3 in title games

This was Miami's last win versus Florida State in 1994 til the Seminoles begins a 5 year winning streaks against the Canes until the year 2000.

Miami vs Florida State was the best game in the country back then. Both have fallen hard now.

Just about every Hurricane QB was overrated because they were surrounded by talented big playmakers. Pro carrers proved that. Miami titles were actually about the DEFENSES!
@robertnoble66003 жыл бұрын
All titles are about DEFENSE!!! Even day Example OU. Great Offenses. Average Defense. So they get whipped in Semis of final 4 everytime. This game is still won at the line of scrimmage. And championships with D!!!!

In 1979, 80, 87-2000 FSU Could have been National Champs about 9 times. If only FSU had good kickers and there was the BCS. Brutal schedule. Miami could have won 12 times. 83, 85, 86, 87, 88 (blown call vs ND), 89, 91, 92, 94, 2000-BCS chose FSU even though Miami beat them), 01, 02 (blown call vs Ohio St).

I wouldn’t call this an upset. Miami has dominated FSU at the Orange Bowl during this period of the rivalry.
@mohabugha3 жыл бұрын
It was hardly an upset. Miami was a great home team at this point and had an elite defense. Miami has the emotion and the prime time excitement on their side.

I remember the talk about how Miami is going to get blown out on this game. I thought maybe canes season would turn around after this game, which they did till the Orange Bowl game.. That wide open TD that was missed was end of the turn around season.

There is a penalty in one of these FSU games where the FSU player picks up the flag and puts it on Warren Sapp's bare head. Warren's reaction was priceless. I think it was FSU.
@robjohnson88615 жыл бұрын
@@CMB7686-kj5vm Huh? Ok, Sapp there in 91, 92, 93, 94 drafted in 95. Clark was drafted in 90. It was either Maryland or Sapp and it was an FSU that put the flag on their head.
@SJM67914 жыл бұрын
Rob Johnson- Wrong!!! For Christ sake it’s a simple search on Google or KZbin. Dexter Carter put the penalty flag on Bernard Clark’s head during the 1989 game in Tallahassee. FSU won the game 24-10. Craig Erickson was hurt and Freshman Gino Toretta played in his place. Toretta threw an interception on the 1st offensive play of the game. Dexter Carter scored on FSU’s 1st offensive play of the game. Miami committed six (6) turnovers in the game.
