Part of what made Bristol was "Thunder Valley" aspect of seeing the mountains as a back drop to the track. The opening shot brings back so many good memories. Bristol was simply so much cooler back then.

+tuowl05 I agree. My first race there was in 1973. Cale lead every lap. I was 9 then. Don't care very much for what that place has become.

tuowl05 it's more impressive now, it's the last great coliseum.

TheMW2informer The last great “empty” coliseum now. I guess they’ll keep taking stands down until it looks like they have a good crowd again.

@@prevost8686 True indeed... There was barely 40k people there this past spring race... Absolutely pitiful. Yet this past weekend race at Kentucky was actually rather well attended. I think the issue with Bristol was the stupid track repave.. economy crash.. then stupid tricks to make the bottom racing line faster again which really didn't work... People not liking current drivers... Unlike when Richard Petty, Cale Yarborough, and Bobby Allison retired and NASCAR had Dale Earnhardt, Rusty Wallace, and Bill Elliot to fill their shoes then after and with them guys you had Dale Jr, Jeff Gordon, and Tony Stewart... The current group of drivers just do not carry the fan base the way the previous men actually did... Also people can't stand Bruton $mith... Who was screwed everything up... Including buying North Wilkesboro only so that he aka moron could shut it down... So people really don't like that bastard.. and people do not like the morons running NASCAR... It is about to collapse after this latest tv contract ends....

@@bradleyhudgins1005 you are right ! Couldn't have said it better myself. After 2007 the track was ruined. It was better under the previous owner . And your absolutely right about the drivers too. This latest generation of drivers aren't as likeable as in the past.

The old Bristol misses me a lot...

Bristol was so awesome back then. It reminds me of the local short track with racing every friday night. Especially during this era before the track was surrounded with grandstands.

1:41:18 Rusty Wallace over the last 15 short tracks, average finish 2.0. I wonder if anyone else ever had a run that good in NASCAR history, maybe DW or Richard Petty if anybody and Rusty wins this race too

Ernie Irvan had a near fatal accident at Michigan the week prior. He'd be sidelined until Oct. 1995. Kenny Wallace drove the 28 car for the remainder of 1994 & Dale Jarrett drove it in 1995

any real nascar fans?
@JoshuaFarmer-bv7ip Жыл бұрын
Yep. No Fairweather fan here. Sports change and evolve, like cars. Been watching since 86...Davey fan, then Ernie, then Earnhardt from 97 on...same time I was introduced to a young driver named Harvick in the truck series Winter Heat...been pulling for him ever since. Fun question. Who was the last active driver to retire, that had competed with Dale Earnhardt Sr?
