1994 Irvine to Indio I-5/CA55/CA91/CA60/I-10

The first road video I ever made, on February 28, 1994. Starting at Alton onto northbound I-5, then onto northbound CA 55 (5-55 interchange reconstruction), then to 91 east (construction for the FasTrak lanes, and on the carpool lanes in Riverside, and no CA241) through the old 91-215-60 interchange onto eastbound 60, then on to eastbound I-10 past Indio. Shot with a Sony 8mm camcorder, upscaled to 720p, and sped up 12x-32x.

One year ago, On the Orange County and riverside county freeways (I-5, CA-55, CA-91, CA-60) the caltrans message says “Wash your hands, Stay Healthy Avoid COVID-19”

Ah, if only you started the video a little further southward!!! I would have gotten a kick out of seeing the beginning stages of the overhaul of the El Toro Y. An excellent video, nevertheless. I miss all of the porcelain enamel, button copy signs along the freeways.

It was being rebuilt when that video was shot in 1994.

The 5 freeway was built in 1947 and was actually redone in 1996.
