The date was April 24th, 1994! Riviera Lanes in Fairlawn, Ohio hosted this historic tournament for the very last time. In the opening match, 5th seeded Steve Jaros takes on 4th seeded Pete Weber. The winner of the opening match faces 3rd seed Randy Pedersen. The winner of that match faces 2nd seeded Norm Duke. The winner of the semifinal match takes on top seeded Eric Forkel. Happy viewing!

I remember that Gold Rhino Pro ball giving me fits back in the day. I worked in a pro shop and later owned one and that was one of the most frustrating balls I ever worked on. It took months for us to figure out that we needed to sand off the factory finish and then reapply whatever was needed. Out of the box the ball hooked off the lane when it hit dry and went perfectly straight in oil. We used to hide the ball from a guy who had one on our team lol. And at 20:14 he mentions my home town, Windsor, Ontario as the place where the lowest score by two opponents in a championship round took place lol.

The lesson from this tournament: *make your spares*. It's been a high strike volume game over the past 25-30 years or so but you have got to fill those frames.

I'm leaving too many comments here I know...but on another video with Norm Duke, I mentioned that I thought it was bad that he always seemed to lose his balance on spare shots. Almost every single time, he stands up at the line and steps with his right foot over to the right...and there ya go, this time it cost him a foul. Didn't cost him the match but it's still a valid point.

Norm Duke puts a tremendous amount of roll on the ball.

I've watched this video a couple of times now and I am more positive than ever that if any of these guys had just grabbed a urethane ball (Jaros was using a Black Rhino urethane as his spare ball) I would bet they could have grinded out 200-210's and won.

Back then ball companies provided great incentive money to use certain products on the tv show.

@@irishpogi That's true but how much do you think they were paid? I am assuming the money for finishing first or second would be worth far more. Somewhere on KZbin there is a video of Walter Ray using a plastic ball to win a championship while everyone else is using reactive, so there are times when it might be a smarter play, just my opinion though.

Knock it off with your nasty lies!! 😠. Norm Duke wasn't a drug addict. He never took cocaine and neither did the other PBA bowlers. It would be impossible to be a good bowler if you take cocaine, you moron!!
