Timing marks on a 1994 Ford Ranger 2.3L and earlier years. Plus tensioner tool to replace the belt. The belt on this truck broke and thus had to find the timing marks. 1995 is different.

I guess I got lucky..... nobody else ever heard of that tool..... I had to use pry bar and a friend to pull it back.... smooth side of course.... I slipped the belt on... and manually turn the motor the make sure no resistance and I've had to do it twice and finally got it right... truck driving like a stripped ape... thanks for your help....

Does this tool help if the tension spring is off and timing belt needs to be installed?

I think I ran into the same thing you described about the cam mark jumping a tooth. I could have it lined up perfect and when I install the belt and loosen the tensioner it moves ahead of the mark. I can't turn the cam pulley back too much or it will jump to the next 90 degree spot you demonstrated. I was a little confused about how you were using the belt markings to line it up. I got mine lined up close as possible, it just a hair off the line in the cover. When I released tension and turned the engine by hand a couple times and back to compression on TDC the marks appear to be in line. Is there an easier way to get the cam mark lined up perfectly when installing the belt? Do I need to move the cam sprocket back a little or move the belt over a tooth?

Does the Oil Pump pully have to be set or does it work anywhere it is?

Having trouble getting my timing sprocket off. What tools did you use to pull the sprocket off. Haven't really seen any videos it from the 2.3 liter

Mine just came off with no tool at all. It was not stuck or anything. The crankshaft sprocket on mine required a Ford puller. It was so stuck the truck could probably be picked up by it! ie vehicle went under salt water in Katrina, but must not have reached the cam sprocket. With Ebay searching for "2.3 Lima Rotunda" gives many 2.3 Ford engine tools. One tool is the "Rotunda T74P-6256-A Camshaft Pulley Remover" . LOOk for "T74P 6256" and there are 6 different sellers. Some look like there maybe pieces missing. Not sure. The center piece might be different for different engines, You might try asking these sellers if the center adapter is for a 2.3L. The entire set of Ford 2.3 L engine tools is " T74P-6000-L" . The entire set of tools often is priced not much higher than 2 or 3 tools. Also with the sprocket bolt off you might try Kroil or PB nutbaster or WD40 if you have not tried yet.

You made no reference to the auxillary timing mark, does it matter? My inner cover has no timing marks to go by, (diamonds or triangles) just on the gears themselves. The truck is a 1993 2.3L Ranger and I can't find a whole lot of info. Good video though! Very informative.

Don't you have to line up the Auxiliary shaft sprocket as well? Please show us how. Thanks.
@3beltwesty2 жыл бұрын
On this model year the auxiliary shaft does not internally connect to anything. It is just an idler sprocket. Thus nothing to align

@@3beltwesty Is it a California model? Mine (1994) connects to a camshaft synchronizer.

@@path2049 mine is a non California model. Built in Edison New Jersey in spring 1993, but a 1994 model year truck

I got scared when you started rolling the cam over no belt. Then I ran to ask the internet. The internet said this is a non-interference engine. YEA, no bent valves! lol AUX shaft timing marks?
