Mr. Bailey: As a 14 year old kid making $1.00/hr in 1978, I bought a brand new YZ100 and started reading about Bob Hannah. He was super inspiration for me, a kid that came from nowhere, and pretty much taught himself how to ride a bike,---was kicking every bodies butt. So if he could do it, I could do it. I started looking at all the magazine pictures to learn how to ride, and by the time David came around, I had started racing a bit. I loved this sport because it was based on the individual, and that was the last of the era where you taught yourself how to ride, (at least in my area). Then David starts doing very well, and I find out you are his teacher. Man, I thought that was unfair, I am trying to do it by myself! But that is the way life should be, we pass what we know to out kids, and it advanced mankind even more. My Dad just never got into dirt bikes, and I am so glad today to be in a era where a kid could afford his own. So since I never got fast enough, I learned how to machine things, got a few degrees in manufacturing, and now port little 2-stroke engines for a living and sell them all over the world. It worked out good. I am not mad anymore. :) You're an Icon of the sport, and were a great influence to kids all across the nation Mr. Bailey. Salute. You should contact the you-tube show, "The Whiskey Throttle Show" hosted by Grant Langston and David Pingree. That show will most likely be a great reference for somebody to write a "History book of MX", in the future, and I think your story should be in there also. Oh yea, David was on it.

I remember when Englishtown, (the home of Micky Kessler), was not considered a real MX track by many people because it was made on flat ground, (with a huge man made step up hill). Today, it would be one of the best tracks on the national series. Did Englishtown ever run a national? (I don't remember). When RC passed you, did you think, "Damn it! I know I can go that fast!!" to yourself?
@MichaelF10265 жыл бұрын
EarthSurferUSA it never made it to the national series, but it hosted plenty of big name riders, especially guys on Kawasaki and team green because they were the big sponsor for the race of champions. Gary where you at Lake Whitney Texas for amateur National event in 93 or 94 would love to see some vintage video of that race Charlie Bogart broke his leg at that race I'm sure it's hard for you to remember all the racist thanks for your time

I still say Travis wasted his career as a factory racer. Won a national title his rookie year, won the 125 cc Eastern Region SX title as a sophomore and that's it. He could have been the one to challenge RC in the early 2000s.

I think it is fellow district 11 rider Jeff Gibson. I don't think Wey ran 27 back then and I know for a fact Jeff was a team green rider and #27 our entire youth career

Honda had no support to youth riders back then. Hence why they didn't have many fast riders on their bikes. Kaw Suz and yam all paid out money especially big races like the Mini O's
