I started on a CR60 and haven't owned or ridden anything else with the power to weight since. As soon as I seen the title I said the 80's gonna win. Even in road racing the little bikes win. The fastest bikes at the track are 250cc two strokes. Plus, when your riding the little bikes you ride them way more than they ride you.

That was awesome! Had a smile on my face the whole race, I don't think that 85 dropped below 75,000 rpms the whole race :)

Now imagine how fast that 85 would be with a top 85 rider on board weighing half as much (no offence)

Was thinking the same, guy certainly wouldn't have been close wirh me at 14yrs old on either my CR85 or CR85Expert i used in 125 schoolboy class

I raced Novice on a YZ250 in Englishtown, my friend on CR125 kept up with me on the track, its true, its all about the rider!

I’ve had a similar experience with my brother in law. He brought two bike from Colorado to my other brother in laws farm in Kansas. He rode a XT400 and I rode his wife’s Honda 100 whatever it was. Both four strokes. He was aways boasting about his skills as rider. So…..I challenged him to race around the farm pond, which all the way around was close a mile circuit. By turn one I was beside him hammer down. By turn two I was gone. He was astonished.

Fantastic video! Sure do miss that 2 stroke sound! Was a pretty neat race

This is too awesome! Are these 85s about the same experience as, let's say, a 1974 YZ125 or OG, CR125? I know suspension-wise they are going to be better, but just generally powerwise, are these a match for ancient 125s?

Awesome often wondered along these lines. Early 90s Dad got me a 87 KX80 and he could not believe that I could leave his early-mid 70s Bultaco 350 in the dust. lil two strokes rock!

It's all about how much you want to twist that grip hey! ;-D Thanks for watching dude :-D

@@999lazer True. Also I think some eras just made huge leaps forward maybe electric is the leap of this era. 75-85 saw proper gas monoshock, expansion chambers, disc brakes, liquid cooling. Then 85-00 two stroke perfected without distortion to the cc rules. Would love to see a classic mx (scrambler) vs modern bike shoot out - suspension instead of power might be the decider.

Awesome vid, that 85 from Roland is a weapon 👌🏻 You forgot to mention Eddie Jay Wade being an 85cc world champion onboard one of Mark Woodage's machines at MJW specialist

We did a video with Eddie way back in his 65 days, it was awesome to see him win the world title in 2017 i think it was! We also did a video with Mark back when he ran a Kawasaki MX team as well ( i want to say that was in 2013 maybe..)

This video showed some AMAZING FULL THROTTLE BACK TO BACK racing near the end! Did you see the 450 roost the shit out of the 85 aft that corner 😮😂 that was epic. You guys went all out on this one great vid.

Personally I loved the kx 100 big wheel. Had a ttr125 for a pitbike at the time. And found my self riding the kx ever chance I got and letting my buddies ride the ttr. Absolutely loved it. For trails and everything except slow wheelies. I imagine a fly wheel swap would take care of that

Saved up half a year and got my first MX bike, a YZ80D, in 1979 at age 12. Later in life around 30th BD got a 1996 YZ250 2-stroke, got back into riding. Loved both. But life got in the way... Fast forward 25 years. Just finished building a 29kW (36hp) Surron, and I'm smiling like a little kid again, taking it on 'mild' MX tracks. Build video is on my channel.
