"The layback was killer for 1994." I'm very curious what you mean by that. Have ice skaters gotten BETTER at ice skating in recent years? If so, why? What would cause skaters to be more talented today than 30 years ago? Is it bc the quality of ice skates have improved...? Or, have human beings improved? Why should an athlete have better skills than athletes a couple decades ago? What would explain that? Thanks very much. I'm very curious about this. (And yes, I do notice that today's ice skaters seem WAY more skillful, stronger, faster, more artistic and more impressive today than in the past but I don't know why that is.)

She was Tonya the Jumper for about six months. For the rest of her career she was Tonya the Popper, Tonya the Stepout, Tonya the Faller. She had to be good at something. What kept her from winning was more in the big competition she didnt do those jumps. Yes she had them when in shape and in top form, but they rarely were done when it really mattered. Pretty much the only time they ever were was her dream 91 in winning U.S Nationals, being 2nd at worlds, and winning Skate America. As you can see in this skate she didnt jump that well, stepping out of her triple combo (.4 deduction) and even putting her foot down on a simple double flip which hardly any girls had problems with (.2 deduction). She is also out of shape, which is probably why she isnt jumping to her full potential, which was often the case in important events.

A lot of hard training goes into it and it's not fun by any means. It looks far more glamorous during competitions but it is not on most days. There's a lot of physical fitness needed to do the jumps etc. and this is done off ice. She's been brilliant in 1991, and has shown she is a very talented skater.. She has not recovered after the scandal, but she shouldn't be judged on one wrong for the rest of her life. What on earth is wrong with people that they cannot enjoy Tonya Harding’s skating without ripping Nancy Kerrigan to shreds? The world was filled with excellent national champions, and just because Tonya Harding skated at the Olympics did not mean she was ever a medal contender on this world stage. I enjoyed this program watching it now and I wish she had done it as well as at Skate America, when the crowd adored her and rocketed her to a win in the technical program. But you can see in people’s eyes at the start of an Olympic program what the outcome is going to be, and she was rattled. I wish her idiot friends had not done what they did, and I wish she had an upbeat piece of music like this for her free program, instead of Jurassic Park which was slow and which she never seemed happy or comfortable with. She is actually really good. If only she is just focused on being great and forget whatever shits happen during her time.

One thing I noticed is she gained a lot of weight between Nationals and here, which is one reason this short program is nowhere near her Nationals one, and the jumps are nowhere as strong as her Nationals skate. I don't know what she was doing in the weeks in between exactly, but that was one story of her career. She wasn't consistently trained and prepared for big events to skate to her immense potential. The judges rarely did her a lot of favors, but she rarely did herself many either.

Unfortunately she should've placed much higher. The reason she didn't is because they weren't judging her skating and athletic ability alone. Had they done their job and left personal feelings out of it then she would've placed enough to at least have been on the podium. A panel of figure skating judges shouldn't be judging anything other than the athletes performance as a skater, matters off ice....that's for a judicial judge to decide. I hate that shit, not just in figure skating but every other sport as well. I'm not saying all of them are like that cause they're not, but the ones who are.....i no like.

Her husband and her bodyguard hired the guy who attacked Kerrigan. The identity of the attacker and his ties to Harding's husband were not discovered until after the Olympics. Oh by the way there is this new thing called "google" which you can use to get information about past events. Give it a try sometime!

Let's not forget she tried to get Nancy Kerrigan out of the competition. They should have kicked her out of the Olympics not even allowed her to skate. Maybe they did it so Nancy could have the satisfaction of beating her even though she tried to injure Nancy so bad she couldn't skate
