I started in MTB in 92 or 93. Watching restorations videos is like a terapy, remember me the time that I used to fix my bike in my father's garage. I'm from Brazil, this bike (or others similar) was very expensive. Just a dream for that time. Congratulations for the vídeo!

I am restoring my 1997 Hoo Koo right now. Still trying to decide how I want to go about paint matching the original color “Bloodshot Red”. Love the layered paint job! You may have luck trying several light coats of paint and holding the can further away from the frame. This will help prevent runs and heavy buildup and really give it that OEM look! This thing is super cool 😎

This is insane! No joke here, I promise. I found that exact frame, for free in a recycling center in 98"' if I remember right. Built it up and rode it through several continents starting in New Delhi. That thing had been to Asia, Oz , the Americas and on to Africa. Where it is now with a friend. Free frame, no joke. Gary's brilliance and wizard level geometry are legendary for good reason, "Man's Best Friend" If I'm not mistaken there was a limited edition of those.. The Grateful Dead version. Love your bike, very nice work. Cheers

How inspiring! I picked up a Hoo Koo E Koo like yours, and it’s been sitting waiting for me to figure out what to do with it. Thanks fir sharing this great video! Where did you get your decals? I also have a Kona Kula Supreme that was ridden hard and needs rebuilt. The Scandium frame back in the day was $5k! It has a silver finish with clear coat that is dinged up; any tips on how to repaint or finish it, and where to get decals? Thanks again!

Maybe this has been stated, but I am surprised that non-tubless rims worked. Usually, the "hooks" on the rim and tire bead have to match up to seal for air. I am in the middle of a 1995 Cronus rebuild, but will not be repainting it or using tubeless tires. Love your color scheme.

I found the same exact bike on Craigslist for 70 dollars. Mine even had the original Tioga Psycho tires on it. I completely rebuilt the bike, converting it to commuting use with full fenders, rack and dynamo hub. It's got the perfect geometry for agile city riding with a steep stem and swept back handlebars. I replaced the fork with a suspension corrected chromoly fork from the same era. This Gary Fisher has some sentimentality for me so repainting it isn't an option. The original grey paint and stickers give it so much character and nostalgia.

I'm sorry but watching the scraping off of the original Gary Fisher decals was sacrilegious. And the new runny paint job versus cleaning up and keeping the original paint was a huge mistake. Maybe in twenty years someone will undo this and restore the bike back to original.
