I remember watching this race i was 15 loved it. Less downforce back then love how the cars moved around not just glued to the road like these days .

Agreed. You needed a shedload of talent to keep it rubberside down.

Peter Brocks Baby Austin was not powered by a V8, it was powered by a Holden Six Cylinder engine.
@rosstipler84356 жыл бұрын
Correct, it was a 186 red motor.

I first saw Peter Brock race his blue coloured Austin at Oran Park in the late 60’s and it definitely wasn’t powered by a V8.It was a Holden 6 cylinder. It may have been the ambiguous...179ci.

"the ambiguous 179," @@brianwalker1933? 😆 Did you actually mean _ubiquitous_ ? Obsequious? Magnanimous? Loquacious? Disingenuous? Popular?

It's interesting to hear Jones talking nicely about Seton ...given Glenn's I suppose well rumoured Number 1 / 2 status in his team when Jones or Crompton were his team-mate.

I actually felt sorry for Brocky in this era, his HDT cars were always down on power. Watch around 13:00 minutes, and Dick just pulls away from him down the straight, even though Brock has the slipstream. Why they kept the same engine guy, I will never understand.
@peterbarber7613 Жыл бұрын
Mark Mark. Dick didn't just pull away at all
@markmark5269 Жыл бұрын
@@peterbarber7613 Yeah, he did, and it's relevant to PB being in his slipstream.

This is after Bathurst? So GSR lost Peter Jackson already - hence the Bridgestone??
@Chris555248 жыл бұрын
+TassieLorenzo I think that's the case. I remember tobacco advertising in sport in Australia was outlawed in 1996, but I'm not sure if this Peter Brock Classic was a championship event or not. But in 1996, GSR switched to Pack Leader Racing (still affiliated with Philip Morris). I miss tobacco sponsorship, the livery on the cars were always spectacular. -JPS BMW's -Marlboro F1 cars -Benson & Hedges F1 car -Peter Jackson v8's Put it this was, big tobacco always knew how to market their products successfully
@TassieLorenzo8 жыл бұрын
Chris Ford Actually I recall that Pack Leader sponsorship was on the Alan Jones Racing cars run by the Stone Brothers, if I am not mistaken. That was a brand new team at that time! :)
@Chris555248 жыл бұрын
Oh, my mistake then. I got Alan Jones and GSR confused then. Was this Peter Brock classic a true championship round? or similar to the Peter Jackson Dash rounds of 1993? just a publicity stunt...
@dereknelson46376 жыл бұрын
+Chris Ford I'm pretty sure it was just an exhibition event. With tobacco sponsorship ceasing at the end of 1995, it looks as though Peter Jackson ended their partnership with GSR after Bathurst '95 and before Ford Credit came aboard with GSR. Pack Leader (ie. Philip Morris) sponsored Alan Jones' newly formed team in 1996 (car 301, and Paul Romano in car 201). Winfield also exited from Fred Gibson's team at the end of '95.

There were a lot of people spaced out back then, even today we still hear of such stupidity. People will believe anything, lol.

9 times peter was king of the hill but that was in a time Aussie touring cars was anywhere near as fair and competitive, Brock was nothing when v8supercars ran a closer competition

Typical Eastlake: babbles and babbles about almost nothing - but when there's a hugely significant overtaking move, the big boofhead (and the clumsy commentaryteam around him) has gone AWOL. 😆🤦🏽♂️
