My grandfather gave me one of those pull-string Woody's for Christmas back in 1995. I loved pulling his string and hearing his phrases. I thought he was cool! I was disapointed he didn't say "Reach for the sky." though. There was a Woody I could find in Kmart in 1996 that did say "Reach for the sky." but it wasn't a pull-string one. You had to press his chest near the top button on his shirt to make him talk.

I got one for Christmas that year, too. I would later get the other model with the bigger pull-string and no spurs, but the first one I loved the best. I had him until roughly 2014-2015 when I donated him to charity.

I prefer this version of the OG Woody rather than the later 1996 version. Even though he was meant to be a rag-doll like in the film, the Posable version really gives good stop motion animating.

that is interesting. Seems like wave 1 Woody had some extras they changed later on for some reason. Toy companies always do this..well for Thinkway Toys especially like what they did with wave 1 collection Woody in 2009 with real denim jeans then later changed them to printed on.

My Woody doll I had when I was a kid looked like the one in your video. The only differences are that he was fatter and his pullstring ring was bigger on the back of his black and white cow vest. My Woody doll also didn't have the spurs on the back of his cowboy boots like yours does. I think that was the 1996 Woody if I remember correctly.

Been watching your videos a good 2 weeks and I do enjoy them. I’ve decided to start recollecting toys from my childhood largely due to your content! I managed to grab a 95 buzz for $12 and a 96 woody for $45, doll and hat purchased separately. I do wish mine had the spurs but I felt it was a good compromise over paying a hundred plus to have spurs! Could you demonstrate how to replace the 95-96 Woodys buttons with the ones on your shop? Or perhaps what to use to color over where the paint came off the original buttons? Main thing is your videos are fun to watch and thank you for putting out fun content!

The spurs on the original Woody were probably recalled for safety. I have a Thinkway Woody from Toy Story 2, and his spurs are noticeably thicker.

Yeah that’s interesting. Later they did bring the spurs back but yes for a while they took them off. That’s probably why they removed the wires from the first wave as well.

I actually still have mine from 1995! TIL that he was poseable and had wires in him lol. He’s in pretty okay condition considering he’s moved across countries and was throw around over the years. The pull string doesn’t pull, he’s missing his buttons, Star, and hat. And it’s a bit faded and dirty but I can’t help but keep him around. He’s the only thing from my childhood I still have. I was thinking of buying a 1995 doll and kinda restore him as much as I can on my own. Though it’s kind of a huge investment.

Be very very careful with him Have had about 7 or 8 1995 Woody dolls because they're pull strings kept breaking I recommend you just keep him as a display and keep him in his Box if you didn't already take him out

So I found you on accident lol. But I love the info. I’m a fairly large collector and I have the same issue with running out of room. For a little more info on this. The reason the removed the wire was for safety. But things you didn’t see. The buttons are not sewn into the shirt they are almost lose if you look. That was changed due to a choking hazard. Which is also why the Spurs were removed. They were easily pulled out of their sockets causing again a choking hazard. So if you look at another 95’ era woody there will be a square socket but no spur. Due to the choking hazard. I know a lot of useless info but hey I know it lol.

The 1st 1995 Woody doll I got was a wave to without spurs But I have a story for you! The only working 1995 Woody doll I have left is a wav 2 I used to have a wav one but it Only worked Sometimes but then I got a nother wav 1 and it did work but then One day the pull string Made a snapping sound And did not retract back in So then I grabbed the wav 1 that Did not always work but then suddenly it started to work Correctly out of nowhere But then I soon learned why it Sometimes did not work the while leading to the battery pack and a circuit board was loose So my Father Saturday back on but accidentally put too much solder on it which caused the battery compartment to overheat To the point were I could never work again Finally I got a another one but this time it was a wav 2 It worked perfectly but the string never went in all the way But It still worked just fine Until the wire from the battery compartment was coming loose because I would always hold it by the battery compartment Once Again my father Tried to solder it back on And It overheated to the point where it could never work again . My father then said that he would think about getting the another She told me to check on eBay thankfully I found one perfectly working In a lot with a 1999 Jessie doll Which also worked Perfect! Meaning that The Pull strings fully retract! And still do! And then I stumbled upon Another one Brand new in its Box At an antique store It also fully Fully Works But its voice was very quiet and demonic because the batteries had ran dead Thankfully me and my father change the batteries and it fully works so that is the story of every single one of my 1995 Woody dolls!

Wow thanks for sharing your story. Sounds like soldering is a bad idea if he breaks. I think it’s great that at the end of the journey you finally got a working Woody. Sometimes you just have to be patient, work hard, follow your dreams, never give up, put your mind to it and you can accomplish anything and make impossible into possible. I used to have both of the orginal ones as A kid and I feel bad for getting rid of then now knowing how much they cost to replace but my woody was unfixable his shoes wouldn't attach to his feet anymore, he was dirty, and his arm no matter how much you tried to sew it back on it come unattached. As for buzz nothing was wrong with him besides his helmet was permanently off. Totally regret it now after seeing toy story 4

Hmm maybe somehow mine is a new “defective” version. As far as I know this is the “new” condition since I was the first person to replace the factory stock batteries.

yeah yours does sound better.... hmm but is yours really from 1999? maybe that would explain improvements in the sound since mine was a true wave 1 from 1995. If not you just got a better voice box somehow!

Hi, l have a Woody like this, he has the posable arms and legs, but hasn't got spurs, and his jeans are darker, would you have any idea which wave he could be? I read they made him without spurs and the wire inside later on, but mine still has the wire inside and the sewn on buttons but no spurs, weird?
