So from a tactical point of view, I am unsure why Karlsson kept looping the opening ball into Ding Song forehand. Ding was waiting everytime. Attacking Ding down the middle or backhand seemed a better tactic. Karlsson looked uncomfortable against the deceptive play of Ding. Although Ding is a terrific player.

He was indeed uncomfortable. Reading about this match in the newspaper archives at svd.se, May 9 1995 (translated): " "The draw resulted in Peter Karlsson, who strongly dislikes playing against defensive players, facing exactly that: Ding Song. "It was the worst thing that could happen," sighed "Kalle." " China knew who the three Swedish players would be but had five players to choose from. So, they ensured a 'win' in the draw by making tactical match-ups.
