As life goes on, your purpose changes. When you're a kid, your purpose is to get through your schooling and prepare for the workforce. When you become a parent, your purpose is to make sure your kid doesn't bash its head on the corner of a coffee table and giving it a baker's dozen of stitches. The same goes for the E36 generation of BMW's 3 series cars.
Back in the 1990s, if you bought an E36 off the showroom floor, you probably bought it to take to the board of directors meeting that following Friday. Long story short you were a business man.You worked hard crunching numbers so it only made sense that you bought a car to reflect your white collar life. Fast forward to 2017 and now a simple craigslist search will show you tons of drift missile cars that have met a couple of walls, and bent a couple of body panels.
The 1996 BMW 328 ci is a car for people who love the BMW name plate, but also diet strictly off of Wendy's 4 for 4 and Taco Bell loaded grillers. The E36 is a drift car of choice now a days, and I can't blame them. The straight six / rear wheel drive combo allows skids to happen, while still appearing more classy because of the three letters on the hood. The E36 is for the guy who worships ken block, and thinks miata headlights are "GAY".
The 1996 BMW 328ci is a good car. With prices lower than ever, its is completely reasonable to pick up a good 'ol E36 for under $5,000. So go for it. They'll slide around your local mall parking lot, and get you going in straight line. Just don't expect the power of an M3
