Justin Haas I dont know what it makes for power, I'd like to have it dyno'd eventually but being located in middle of nowhere Iowa theres no one around who can do it. For fuel mileage it does a solid 14mpg with me driving it back and forth to work about half and half city and highway, and thats still with me romping on it a few times just cause I like the noise it makes. I did manage to get almost 17mpg out of it on a 260 mile highway trip I took over the summer, cruise control at 65mph with the ac on low, thats with 3:55 gears and stock size 235/75 tires, turning 1800 rpms.

Keith Hof The truck still drives around like a normal truck, it'll idle in traffic all day with the air conditioning on with no issues, it'll pussyfoot down neighborhood streets at 25mph and it'll cruise 75 down the highway. It didnt lose any low end power or low end driveability, rather it just pulls a lot harder at mid to high rpm now. For the most part it just feels like driving around in any ole pre 1997 F150, until I stomp the loud pedal.

Chris Perry It'll work with the stock valve train. Stock cam with stock 1.6 lifters is .444 if i recall correctly, an e303 is .496, not a massive enough difference to cause any valve to piston interference issues. Although if its going into an engine with a ton of miles it'll definitely push old tired valve springs to about their limit.

If you don't mind asking, how much did all this cost when you finished it? I have a 94 I'm trying to do

I've got roughly $2500 in it, mostly because I was able to do all the machine work myself... I already owned the 302 block, I hot tanked it and bored it in the machine shop in the tech school I was attending. I spent $750 on pistons and a master rebuild kit. I got the heads for free, they were well used/beat cores, I did a valve job on them, I did the port work myself, and I installed new springs and 1.72 ratio rockers. Gave $400 for the intake, injectors, and MAF sensor, got all that from a friend who was switching his Mustang to carb from efi. Gave $200 or so for cam. The exhaust was kinda pricey, mostly because I bought high dollar equal length ceramic coated headers, and a bassani stainless manderal ypipe. I originally had a set of long tubes on it that I got used, and dual pipes I cobbled together myself, just never cared for the way it sounded, and it looked kinda ratty.

@CJColvin8 жыл бұрын
+oldfordblue1 That's sounds awesome. I bought my 96 F150 back in Wentzville Missouri for around $3300, it's in good shape, barely any rust, and runs very good. Now I have one question does your truck run on premium fuel since it's built or do you still run on regular fuel.
@oldfordblue18 жыл бұрын
+CJ Colvin , I run it on premium as I have the ignition timing bumped to 13 degrees btdc, also opened the plug gap to .0055 and use a hyfire 6al ignition box. It only has around 9.5:1 compression, it'll run on 87 octane with the timing turned back down to 10 degrees btdc, but ever since fuel has gotten cheaper I keep it turned up and run it on 93 octane since it makes a noticeable difference in power. I got this truck back in 2003, I was 17 and in 11th grade, was my first vehicle. It had just under 63,000 miles on it when I got it, its only got 87,000 on it now. I live in northern Iowa, and I would bet money that this is the only original rust free F-series of this generation anywhere near me. The road salt just destroys everything up here. I dunno what kind of life the truck had before I got it but I've babied it the entire time I've had it. Its always been garage kept, its never seen snow since I've had it, I dont take it out on days when it storms to avoid hail damage. I had the truck maybe 3 months before I picked up a beater to drive for winter, and since then Ive always had mutiple pickup trucks, so this one hasnt ever pulled a trailer or hauled anything heavier then a couple bags of groceries. Just today I added another 96 F150 to my fleet, a 2wd short bed regular cab with the 300 inline 6, 5 speed manual, and a 2.73 rearend gear. So I now have two 96 F150s and two 94 f150s. I enjoy these old trucks.
