From my 92 I removed all the a/c and heater components including condenser and wiring, removed the rear tank, fuel lines and wiring too, put an electric fan with a switch, a fuel pump with a switch too, set the timing on 10 degrees, and yes,the 302 still working very good 👍🏻

I worked for Ford for a number of years and another big problem I found is the connections going into the fuel pump relay get corroded and break. It's located under the hood on the drivers side. The pigtail is green. I've replaced many of them. So if you have a crank no start condition check the fuel pump relay and direct wiring before messing with the fuel pump.

My 92' f150 5.0 is at 440k, was my grandmothers truck who raised me. The fuel tank selector switch pigtail can become corroded as well, small files and bending the wire terminals end for a more snug fit fixed my 2 dead fuel pumps after buying replacements and a new selector switch.

Props to my man that did the walk-through and presentation. I hope you are featured in more vids !Every Ford F150 owner of this generation truck should be forced to watch this video. The year I bought it I did the following: oil change w filter, transmission fluid and filter, t-case fluid, front axle fluid and gasket, rear axle fluid and gasket, right wheel bearing and U-joint, carrier bearing, and now the re-seal. I need to give it a new paint job and some upgrades.

From my '95 4.9l manual I learned the oil pan will not clear the pump due to frame member. Wait until you find out that you cannot raise the motor without removing the AC plenum. I went to a Ford dealership and paid them $500 to change oil pan and valve cover gaskets, but that was over 10 years ago. Today I'd just drop the pan as far as it will go and cut the new gasket once. Permatex.

I currently own 3 of these body styles. 92 F-150, 95 F-150, and a 95 F-350. I'm currently having an issue with the F-350. It was running fine whenever I pulled into a parking space, but whenever i started back up to pull out, the 5.8 developed a hard misfire. I did a complete tune-up replacing the plugs, wires, distributor cap, and rotor. Nothing changed. I'm stumped. The motor only has 92K on it.

On The 4.9 the valve cover gasket will leak on the back side and make you think it was the oil pan or rear seal and is very common on the older ones. And is very hard to tell where it comes from. That's if you can tell at all and if you are unsure go with the valve cover frist. I learned that the hard way. ☺

The EGR valve I agree is a problem area. My check engine light was on and I replaced the EGR valve. No more check engine light but now it has the occasional stalling problem. I think that if you put in a cheap aftermarket EGR valve it may not function perfectly.
@adjacentchannel Жыл бұрын
Those tiny plastic vacuum lines are brittle and crack easily due to the age of the vehicle. I searched everywhere but no one makes replacements for them..... I have gotten to the point of hating to work on my '95 E150, every connection I take apart seems to break no matter how easy I am with it. Thankfully no rust anywhere, but basic stuff just shows that these parts can't handle the test of time. So tempted to yank the 302 and throw in a carbureted 4.9l inline 6 for simplicity.
@kenthuntsingersr750111 ай бұрын
dude , there is no valve in the pump assemble to stop the return fuel from going into the wrong tank. The fuel selector valve on the frame rail serves this function. The valve directs the correct return for the fuel tank being used. These valves do fail and cause the non selected tank to overfill.
@jdwht2455 Жыл бұрын
I only owned 250s and 350s in that period. The problems I had terminal body and frame rot and ABS failures. Everything else was standard automotive maintenance mostly all pre electronics items like all other brands had. EGRs - bypassed or removed them and plugged whatever holes were left since NY didn't do a good state inspection then

I have a 1995 F-250 with the 5.8 and I just rolled 361k miles on it (original engine). I've had it since new, 3000 mile oil changes and full service....never an issue. It's so far outlasted the radiator and transmission....not a fan of the factory trans in this F-250 and had a heavy duty rebuild. The transmissions behind these motors from the factory are made more for cars...plan on rebuilding the right way if you have one with a heavy duty rebuild. It's the ticket!

Wow, I've had every one of those problems on my 1993 F150 except the ignition coil. When my passenger side spring shackle broke, it drove the spring end right through the floor of my pickup bed and left a hole. I've replace BOTH spring shackle brackets. My fuel always migrates from the back tank to the front. So, I use the front tank first then switch to the rear. When the fuel from the rear is in the front tank, then I switch back to the front. He forgot to mention the faulty alternator connector that can cause a fire. I had that happen and found that you MUST replace the connector when you replace the alternator or risk a fire. Despite all those problems, my F150 has over 340,000 miles on it and still passes emission testing somehow. The engine has NOT been rebuilt. Last year, the air conditioning compressor had to be replaced after a mere 330,000 miles and 30-years of service. What does "Made in America" mean any more?
