Finland - too similar to Miss India 1994 answer. she botched her delivery by trying to speak english. better if she had an interpreter. Venezuela - very confident but superficial and narcissistic answer. didn’t answer the question. her translator was really good. it added to the appeal of her answer. Aruba - not the best answer in the history of Miss Universe, but best answer among the 3. her interpreter sounds so boring. interpreter should also start translating when audience’s noises died down a bit.

Of course she did! The translator mended her answer to the last question and he was able to make it seem that she had a great answer! Look back and take a look! Aruba was the best to win..but Alicia was able to pass through that error in a snap..without anyone noticing! She was so smiley and seemed so secured..people related to that and not the way she answered. I never said she is ugly.

It was about overall performance and impression, which is suppose to be the judging process anyway. Miss Venezuela was already a huge favourite during the delegates stay in Las Vegas. Even before they arrived in Las Vegas, there was chatter already about Alicia. Alicia's final question answer wasn't the best, but it wasn't a faulter, and she was just too far ahead already. Miss Universe 1996 was a year when the winner was a huge favourite before the finals night, being so far ahead of everyone. Just like in 1989 (Angela Visser, Netherlands), 1986 (Barbara Palacios, Venezuela), 1984 (Yvonne Ryding, Sweden), 1981 (Irene Saez, Venezuela).

It's a pity for Miss USA, she's first in preliminaries and second in top 10, but the judges ranked her sixth after the interviews. I agree that Yvonne Ryding was huge favorite in '84 that despite her awkward interview she still won. I have no idea about Angela Visser because she was previously unplaced in Miss World '88 before competing in MU..

@@EldarGara it's happened before that a girl with the highest scores was expected to win but bombed the final question and the crown was given to someone else. That's why the final question is what gives away the crown. Alicia never said she was a beautiful woman in her final answer, the translator said it. That's why i feel she got extra credit for it.
