I believe Spain's answer was much better than what was interpreted. She clearly looked disappointed by the translation however Miss India's answer was just so damn perfect. The crown was hers the moment she grabbed that microphone. Miss India all the way..

Actually spain , she said the answer In one go , I wish she would have paused a bit in between, because generally in paegentry , translators mess up the answers if it is in one go , if she would have paused I think her place would have been higher like 1st runner up , or in top 2, but Venezuela was also kinda good. I think All top 3 slayed the answers In their language , but for spain just the translator didn't did good job

True, even today this question is quite hard, but there are many Q&A training in recent years that would makes many candidates able to answer this question now. But back in 2000, this question is totally unexpected, would really shock everyone(even the audience) especially under such a high pressure moment in the MU Top3. That is why India did remarkably well, in fact she was too good, her answer was almost ahead of its time. Still relevant and strong today.

Although Lara’s answer killed it but there’s more to the answer than reality.. most of the Indian models entering pageant doesn’t seem to enter into armed forces or entrepreneurship it’s their way to enter into films. So yes the protest indeed had some point as they looked at the bigger picture not some cleverly drafted shallow message.

Miss Thailand is more superior than Lara Dutta. This question can have a different answer applied today as the progress since has been quite obvious: "Beauty pageants are not what they used to be. Slowly but surely, beauty pageants will be and for women. We already get a platform to showcase our minds and potential by being presentable to look at, but pageants are slowly moving towards being organized for audiences who support and celebrate women. So they could no longer disrespect and objectify women in the future." Lara's answer while delivered well wasn't realistic. All beauty queens including herself end up in showbiz.

That’s why they didn’t include Nina in the semifinals. MU org fixed Lara to win. Lara was a favorite from the very beginning. But having Nina in the semifinals would give Lara a run for her money.

Spain and India both have similar answers. If Spain answer was only translated accurately. The difference was that India was more detailed and ate that mic with no crumbs.
