I was there that day and it was unreal. My husband wanted to leave but I wouldn’t. It was a day I’ll never forget!

The football gods most certainly were smiling on the Jaguars this day.

Since the NFL adopted the divisional rotation for interconference games in 1978, 1996 was the first season in which not all possible matchups between the AFC Central and NFC West were on the schedule. This is because before 1995, those divisions only contained 4 teams, and neither of those pre-1995 line-ups are still fully intact (compared to the five-team divisions that existed before 1995; each had exactly one team that would be moved out of the division in 2002). The matchups that weren't on the schedule for 1996 were: Atlanta-Baltimore (first played in 1999; the 1996 Ravens played what would have been the non-division games for the Browns that year) Carolina-Cincinnati (first played in 1999) Houston-St. Louis (next played in 1999, after Houston had become the Tennessee Titans, would be rematched in Super Bowl the very same season) Jacksonville-San Francisco (first played in 1999) New Orleans-Pittsburgh (next played in 2002, after realignment)

I still remember watching this unfold. Both the Jaguars and Panthers in their 2nd year of existence in the NFL made the playoffs and both went the conference championship games. Just imagine if they both would've won and went to super bowl 31 for the Lombardi, that would've been something!🤔

Still recall this moment like it was yesterday. My brother had gone outside to shoot some hoops so he wouldn't see the Jags hopes dashed. He came running into the house because he heard our Mom and I going crazy screaming "HE MISSED IT!!!" at the top of our lungs.

I was at the game as a 6 year old boy. I just remembered being pissed off from the loud roar awakening me from my nap at the end of the game.

Kevin Harlan and Tim Green on the call for this game on FOX 1:00 True classic game which got Jacksonville to the postseason with Morten Andersen missed the GW field goal and the Chiefs getting stomped on in Buffalo 20-9. I remember seeing this game on NFL Sunday Ticket same day Carolina earned the number 2 seed, The Oilers played their last game as Houston Oilers in Baltimore, The Redskins said farewell to RFK with a whipping on Dallas

Its was actually Bill Mass commentating this game with Kevin Harlan. Not Tim Green. Tim Green was working the Cardinals/Eagles game that day with Kenny Albert.

Brunell should’ve won MVP this year…. he was definitely the most VALUABLE
@rattmausch3 жыл бұрын
Nope. Favre was.
@Realistic3163 жыл бұрын
@@rattmausch 🤦🏻♂️….Favre was the better player…but not as valuable….if Brunell and Favre both got hurt in Week 1, Jags woulda been close to last place….Packers wouldn’t have been THAT bad…..that’s the definition of valuable.

How can this happen? Morten andersen of all kickers missing a chip shot like that? Sure it's a slippery field but come on. 59 straight inside the 30 yard line
