I used the same valvoline trans fluid you did and seems to perform well. Before the 2nd trans fluid drain and refill I added Seafoam transtune and drove another 100 miles with that in there. The fluid that drained out afterwards was sooo nasty, worse than the fluid from the first draining. Drove a few hundred miles with 2nd round of new trans fluid then drained and refilled again.

I have a 98 crv. I had the Transmission replaced 18 months ago at a local shop. They didnt use Honda ATF but It ran good for the first month shifting fine, but then the delayed shifting started occurring more and more often until it became the norm now 18 months later. Well I just changed my tranny fluid yesterday and replaced it with Original Honda DW-1 and holy cow It shifts perfectly now.. no more delays! Even going up an incline where it would just be stuck in 2nd and I'd have to pump and release the gas pedal several times to get it to shift into third gear. Now it flies up a steep incline effortlessly due to proper shifting! Even going downhill it upshifts smoothly, which is something that never happened before. It would just maintain current speed at higher RPM because the tranny wouldn't upshift due to gravity acceleration. Anyways, USE HONDA DW-1 in Honda transmissions people... It was meant to be! I am stoked that my 98 crv runs like a brand new car again! Thanks for this awesome video on changing your fluids!!

Are you sure it's the transmission? I would do a fluid change and see if it improves. If so change it again after several miles and see if you get more improvement. If it's the power steering, you can improve the whine by topping the fluid up to the full line in the reservoir. If the fluid is very dark, you can flush it. It's easy but a bit messy. Again, use Honda power steering fluid, nothing else.

i had a 99 cr-v the transmission flared between 3rd and 4th. meaning the engine will rev up between shifts then it flared between 1st and 2nd and it failed with loss of drive. as this generation ran from 1996-2001 as Honda changed the b series to the K series engines the K24 from 2002-2014 the 2005-2014 models have a drive by wire throttle system. as 2012 the rear differential is electronically controlled. and 2015 they replaced the 5 speed automatic with a CVT transmission and 2017 ex and above trims the 1.5l turbo which has problems. still a CVT. now here not many 1997-2001 cr-vs are around here. almost gone.

No! Always use genuine Honda DW-1 transmission fluid; it even says it in the owners manual. Trust me, if you use some other brand it will work for short while before you run into more problems. Honda designs their transmission to use very specific fluids; yeah its expensive stuff but its better than destroying your transmission with another brand of fluid.

@@edwardanthony7283 it’s a 2.5/3 quart pan if you do it yourself and buy the transmission fluid wholesale that’s a whole 28$ every 40,000 miles. I have a friend from high school I still work on her car she has a 2002 Honda Accord 4cyl automatic the car now has 380,000 miles no internal transmission work just one transmission solenoid. I have a 01 CRV with 289,000 miles no internal transmission problems had a small issue with overdrive solenoid getting stuck simple soak in transmission fluid and some parts cleaner no more problems. My 2013 civic has 170,000 miles no transmission problems internal or external. My stepdad has a 17’ accord sedan my mom has a 17’ accord coupe and my brother has a 19’ civic hatchback. I’ve been working on these cars since I started turning wrenches with my dad. These are by far one of the most frugally designed vehicle lines on the market. If you follow the service schedule from Honda the car will pay for itself in service mileage you receive.

Most Hondas have similar automatic transmissions. The engines may be a bit different, but the transmissions are the same. Gen 1 and Gen 2 CR-Vs are very similar and so are the Civics they are based on. All take 3 quarts to change, and 12 quarts for a complete flush. Three flushes and the 4th is the fill. Use only genuine Honda transmission fluid (or Acura). Personally, I don't use off-brand fluid for the flush b/c the transmission holds about 8 quarts, but you'll only get out 3 at any one change. What you put in will stay there for quite awhile.

@@joubess yes.. 95% of the oil stays in the torque converter.. Hence the multiple drain and fills.. Also. Never change out 100% of the old out fluid all at once.. Only do 3 to 4 quarts every 30k miles. Honda transmissions will always end up having metal shavings in the fluid. Which helps the clutch packs in the torque converter grab eachother when shifting due to the wear of daily use. If you have high miles. And you empty all the fluid with the shavings Your tranny will then begin to slip..
