Thank you @Robert! I was the owner of the car at the time it was reviewed, and chose to have it painted in an Aquamarine shade that I thought really brought out the lines of the car! Your videos are amazing by the way! I’ve tried doing DIY more than once using them!

The reason for the single airbag is that this car was probably privately imported from Sweden (or northern Europe) since you've got temperature in Celsius and fuel in liter's. In the 90s and early 00s it was common in Scandinavia to not have a passenger airbag in a family car because you where supposed to have a rear facing car seat in the passenger seat. In Sweden we have our kids facing backwards until they're 4/5 years (and it obviously saves a lot of children from death or severe injuries). Besides, airbags are primarily improving safety for the driver, protecting him/her from the steering wheel.
@KyleLiongCars2 жыл бұрын
Interesting. Didn’t know that. Thanks for the insight :)
@ZoneSix Жыл бұрын
I remember something being said that the dashboard is so far away from the passenger seat, that there is no way the passenger would hit it in a collision. Thus the passenger airbag was optional. But its also possible with the child car seat case. I have an 850 with a passenger airbag, and there appears to be no way of disabling it.
@davskol Жыл бұрын
@@ZoneSix if I remember correctly the driver side was standard from 1993 but passenger side airbag was optional in the Nordic market. I had a -96, 960 with SIPs bags on the passenger seat but no frontal airbag. My current 850 is a US spec car that was imported to Sweden (made in Belgium) and consequently has DOT airbags (larger then the European ones because in Europe they're only intended as a supplement to the seat belt while in the US they're supposed to work without seat belts.
@ZoneSix Жыл бұрын
@@davskol On the European market for the 1993 models, the driver airbag was optional. It became a standard from 1994. At least that is the trend I've seen from viewing a hundred or so used volvo 850 listings. The airbag in the 1993 models was the same as the USDM cars. Only in 1994 did they change it for the European models. Think the JDM ones also got the same treatment.

The AIRMIX dial defines how much NON-heated cold air straight from the outside you want to let in through the center vents. It's an alternative to opening the windows in bad weather conditions. It really hurts my soul how many dashoards are this wavy and mangled from bending them to reach the instrument cluster. There's a proper, relatively easy way to do this job, without any bending. (Complete removal of the top of the dashboad, which does include removing the passenger airbag with it.) It's easy if you know what you're doing.

The “air mix” dial controls how much air it lets in from the outside. If it’s really hot out you want it open to let cool fresh air into the car from the outside. Opposite if it’s cold out
@KyleLiongCars3 жыл бұрын
Ohhh so it’s like a mix control for the recirculate?

I suspect that car’s got tired suspension. 850 t5’s should handle well (for their size and weight). They should corner fairly flat and be pretty fun on twisty roads.

Love these cars, we call them estate cars here in the UK. These were used by the Police for years over here, I remember getting pulled over a couple of times by them! But was the T5 I think or V70 2002 later on. Boy could they shift! Very fast cars, I was so impressed by them I bought one years later, I have the V70 2.4 Diesel 2002 reg atm. The fastest car I've owned yet, and that 5 cylinder growl of an engine 💪

I dunno about “lack the ability to take on corners.” This specific body was in the btcc. It didn’t win shit but I’m sure it was held in a track that had corners. Ton of features in this car that wasn’t at all mentioned like the delta link suspension, and how easy this engine could be bumped to 300hp. Overall this car for its market price right now and the way it moves? You can never get that from a 124 wagon nor an e34 wagon. You have to pay tons of money to have fun with those.
@KyleLiongCars3 жыл бұрын
Yep agree the 124 and E34 wagons are crazy expensive now. Not sure if this particular example I tried didn’t have the suspension in the most perfect shape, or if it’s really the car’s design, but yeah, it didn’t wanna take corners much haha

A wagon is like a man's version of a mini-van haha. I LOVE Volvo's of this era, and older. My Aunt and Uncle had a 1996 Volvo 850 sedan, and I've always liked seeing their car, and it was cooler since theirs had a 5 speed manual. Just like my Lolo's 190 Benz, I thought this was going to be eventually passed down to me, I was optimistic, it was then given to my cousin after he emigrated from the Philippines.
