+LostFart if you have not seen a factory a/c converted to an air compressor for "on board air", you should check it out. i never use my a/c and for about $100 in parts and an hour in time i hope to get my xj a/c compressor to put out 200psi. i plan to use an old Co2 tank for an air compressor tank that can also be removed for a portable air tank, and later tie into air tank/bumpers. keep up the good videos and have fun do'n it

Of course the clutch wasn't siezed you turned it with your finger, Your test only means the system is low on freon. Your going to lose a finger too. Always put the freon into the line (low pressure) that goes back into the dash, never try to put it in the high pressure side (line that goes to front of rad)

Hello, Cole. You should charge for all of this great advice! Anyways, I'm hoping you can help me as well. So my clutch wasn't engaging. I did the bypass you showed us and it turned right on, so I assumed I needed freon. I bought a small can and I gave it just a couple of squirts to get the psi all the way to the top of the green on my gauge. Sure enough, the clutch started engaging! I thought the problem was fixed...but unfortunately it's still blowing hot air. So to recap, Clutch is engaging and I'm maxed on freon (or at least the pressure is maxed). Seems like it should be working. I'm stumped.
@LostFart
@LostFart 8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for tuning in Matt! There are a couple things here. It could be a slow leak causing you lose just enough so that the clutch engages but you don't have enough refrigerant to have cold air. It could also be mormal wear and tear. Fid you use the correct refrigerant? I think that year calls for R134a? Try Google :-) -Cole

Hi, I have a question regarding the AC sustem of my 1998 Grand Cherokee 5.2 V8 Limited. Besides the High pressure Port located in the body of the compressor it has 2 Low pressure ports, one in the input line of the evaporator (like in your car shown in this video) and another one in the top of accumulator. The question is: Do you known by any chance the Reason to have 2 low pressure ports? Does it matter into which one I recharge my freon R134a? Thanks a lot for your attention.
@LostFart

Sorry, I did not get a notification about your comment. The wire was stainless steel I believe. Anything metal or conductive works.

Also keep in mind that if your low on refrigerat (freon) you have a leak....its a sealed system so it should never be low...unless you have a leak....but some auto shops wont tell you that because they charge from $60 to $100 bucks to add refrigerant ..and they would rather see you come back and do it again....fix leak....

@tonytiger3003 : Well... you have a leak. You need to go to Canadian Tire or a parts store like Auto Parts Plus or any parts store will have this. Ask for A/C purple dye. what you do is put that in your A/C like you would freon and just drive the cehicle like you would with A/C. After a week checkall the hoses, clamps, seals and metals parts for a purple untra-violet color. That will be your leak. Then of course, replace the part.
@MrGuzhev
@MrGuzhev 11 жыл бұрын
Once I charged the A/C and the compressor works fine, the air is not cold but not so warm as with the A/C off. It also seems that the air is the same warm in both extreme positions of the temp dashboard selector with the A/C off and it lil bit cooler with the A/C on. It seems like the system permanently sucks the air coming from the engine irrespectively to the temp selector position (and the A/C is trying to cool down the air from the engine) or it is still something with the A/C

Hi, I live in Brazil and own a Grand Cherokee Limited 98 V8 5.2 and I have 2 questions: 1) My AC clutch os damaged, the rubber ring that ties the inner disk and the outer disk is damaged. Can I buy only this part (brand new clutch. Disk) in a retail story? Which one do you sugest me? 2) The bolt that fixes the clutch to the compressor shaft has 2 thread diameters a 8 mm that screws the clutch and a 5.6 mm that screws the compressor shaft; do you by any chance know the reason for that? Thanks a lot Cesar Miranda

The gauges are crap. They are always 100% incorrect. Add another can of free on and it will blow cold. I need to do this myself, my system discharged throughout winter. Another thing to look for is if the lines are sweating, this indicates a full charge.

Ok I recently changed my AC compressors from 1996 Cherokee Country to a 2000 Cherokee xj but i had to switch out the backs in order to use my lines. The 96 mounts in the main back and the 2000 on top of the compressor. Needless to say i lost all freon and oil. I replaced 4 oz of oil and it took it but it wont take the freon. i straight wired the clutch an it works. wont take freon. Is it full of AIR?? Did changing those backs make a difference? it worked great on the 96. All help appreciated...

Yo. How hard is it to go if there’s a leak? Anyway to cover it instead of having to replace hoses and fittings and do the vaccuming and refilling and the hardship? Also what happens if ya just leave the wire in there to bypass? My problem atm is i leak Freon super fast so I got a leak somewhere and my scans heat blows only three defrost.what should I do? I’m thinking put in a leak fix can then follow up with a 3 and 1 and the bypassing the vent/defrost actuator near the steering wheel by piping off the actuator arm and permanently setting it to vents unless I need to defrost in winter and I’ll leave it set to defrost. Ideas?

Alright so I am troubleshooting now. By-passing with the metal piece didn’t get it going. What other things can I do to continue trouble shooting? I read in a couple places that if the refrigerant is low the pressure would be low and cause the clutch to not engage. Anyone confirm? Basically it seems like I should either go by refill cans and potentially waste money or go without ac Advice?

my ac blows cold then sometimes warm even when the ac compressor is running i put a can of freon in it cause it was low but that did not solve the problem some days it will blow 50 out the vents then others more like 65-70 weather or not the ac has been run all blend doors have been verified as working it goes through all the modes just fine i dont have an airflow problem the front condenser coils are clean when ac is on my cooling fan turns on and it will drip condensate sometimes the line will get really cold sweaty and develop frost shortly after the compressor will cycle other times when its blowing warm usually on warmer days the line hardly gets cold at all when its cooler out the ac blows ice cold. used to on 100 degree day the ac would freeze you out now not so much i have a 2000 jeep grand Cherokee with the 4,0 ac compressor is below the fan but does kick on when i shut of the ac car there is a hissing more like a whistling noise coming from the ac lines only happens after the ac has run.
