You don't have to disconnect the upper radiator hose...You can easily sneak the compressor out and access those bolts with a little bit of finesse..... ..

I have a 96 ZJ with the 5.2 so the same vehicle, doing mine also but replacing the accumulator/drier also. I didn't find it necessary to loosen the upper hose, drain coolant, etc. as comp. came out rather easily-- I got a re manufactured one online for $99.03, mine was making noise also, the bearing was the pulley bearing was the cause

Since you opened the system why did you not change the dryer? Is that not asking for trouble later on?

As explained in the video, you don't HAVE to replace anything else but you SHOULD replace the dryer.

Freon, the trade name of refrigerant made by Dupont (R-12) was made illegal and was not used in cars after 1992. After that year R-134A refrigerant was utilized. In 'some' newer cars after 2013 1234y is being used.

I bought the truck two years ago from a private party. I had to replace the alternator, radiator, brakes, tune-up and a few other things. My trunk has 177,000 miles, I was looking for suggestions on how I could replace some of the major parts without replacing the engine?

I keep the oil changed , I've had a tune-up, new radiator, and alternator put in it.

Putting on a new cylinder head. Old one had the crack problem. It's not seating all the way.

Make sure you don't have to many guide pins. You can tap it down with a rubber mallet or draw it down with the head bolts.

Its not called Freon.... Freon is a refrigerant that was a brand developed by the company DuPont. To keep it generic its simply R134-A. or Refrigerant #134A

Robert, I was looking at this video just as in weight reduction plan. Can I remove this part andsomehow use a smaller belt ?

Yes you can, not sure the belt size, maybe the auto parts store can tell you by selling you a belt for a truck that doesn't have AC. Why do you want to remove it, it only weighs about 10 lbs. That will not save you any gas.

Robert DIY I have a 1999 dodge Dakota v8 the AC compressor blew a couple of years ago and I've been driving the with out it on there's air in the AC lines and 0 Freon could I just put the compressor on and add the Freon or do I have to find a way to bleed it?

old smokey Sure you can just do that. It would be best if you vacuum the system or have a shop service it.

I would think that the blower motor is going bad. When electrical parts sit while old, they go bad.

Evaporator is clogged with debris and mold. Need to pull the dash to replace it. Replace the heater core while you're at it. It makes a huge difference.
