The sound of the engine's and outright speed is what I miss most of the hey days of Cart . The size of the crowd and the packed infield. You can thank Tony George for the split . Indy car still hasn't recovered.

Not wrong, but old wounds, let's appreciate what we have got and encourage a new chassis. Although contradicting myself, my favorite racecar memory is hearing F1 practice walking up to IMS, I'll never forget that sound and my excitement as I started running to the entrance.
@Spike-sk7ql2 жыл бұрын
@@codyeungard yes. The absolute best engine sound was those F1 cars at IMS. Went to every F1 race there, even had a good time in 05, since it was the only win Schumacher got that year, no matter how much of a farce it was. The most ground shaking experience is a nitro car, the best sound were the F1 cars spinning 19,000 rpm.

This race means that IndyCar has uploaded all five races that PacWest Racing won and all three races that Mark Blundell won. This turned out to be the last win for Mercedes-Benz from CART that didn't come from Greg Moore. This was the only podium for Lola in 1997 and their last for two years. I want to see more races from the late 1990s.

Well it wasn't full factory effort tho. Mercedes was just a sticker while the actual engine was mainly developed by Ilmor. But Imagine if Mercedes was still here... They probably bankrupted IndyCar, but they'd bring spectacle to the sport.

Just finished watching this race... Great racing! A shame Andre Ribeiro crashed, he definitelly had the most dominant car.

The race had, IIRC, two names. THe Marlboro 500 as seen in the title was used on some occasions, but the tightening up of cigarette advertising laws meant for TV it was the Cart World Series or California 500, similar to the Michigan/Marlboro 500 naming. This led, in 1999 to the race simply being shown on TV as ... The 500 Yes. That was a thing. I do miss the old Fontana track, and wish Indycar would block turning it into a short track and get back to this style of racing. Say what you want about the Hanford Device, and up to the Mk3, but it did its job. They hit 240+ at Michigan earlier in 97, CART was rightly concerned they were going too fast and took measures to slow down the cars or 97 and onwards leading to the reduced boost, changing up the tunnels under the cars and, yes, the Handford Device on the rear wing. Now do we have Michigan 2000, which is the perfect example of how that device worked, in the classics series?

Indycar is becomimg more and more like F1 by driving almost only on street and road courses. They need more ovals like Michigan, Fontana, Milwaukee, Chicagoland etc.

Ojalá pronto podamos tener carreras en español latino Indycar. Sería excelente
@DrColoso2 жыл бұрын

Indy ppg should of brought out the yellow flag, to stop the race. Jimmy vaster should have won the race.this bring me back to nascar with Mark mortin and Hendrick race. Mark was leaning the race on the final lap . It had a crush and nascar didn't bring out the yellow flag. And havick pass mark Martin and won the race. That is not far at all to both drivers .mark and Jimmy vaster.

a real men race, overtaking opponents without the help of a mechanically-adjusted rear wing ...... Ok, bully me if you dont agree
@codyeungard2 жыл бұрын
While I don't disagree, I'm curious why you are so fearful of modern F1 fan criticism. One of my sadnesses is that while I got to see many nascar races at Michigan (similar config to Cali), I never saw an Indy race there. However I did get to see those close races at Chicagoland and that is what made me start following Indycar thru today.
