Love how Gary and Bill were singing Nick's praises, then he scores a huge goal.

I will never forget Gary’s opening. He hit the mood of the community spot on. I tell my son about how the city his a crescendo of emotions that was 45 years in the making. I was 21 and this team taught me so many life lessons about perseverance, commitment, and the power of the team. Love it!

I couldn't imagine being a Flyer player on the ice in that last minute, the crowd going berserk, the arena at a fever pitch, and you're just trying to focus on the play and what you need to do.

What we know now is that Eric Lindros has had several concussions, and he’s kind of timid during hits and situations with hits. No one knew that all the end of his career, but he was very scared of being hurt…… all star player. Love him

Mike Vernon got to have TWO different NHL teams gather around him in ecstasy celebrating a looong-deserved Stanley Cup: The '89 Calgary Flames, after having been built for almost 2 decades by Cliff Fletcher and company, and the '97 Red Wings, after almost 2 decades of being built by Mike Ilitch, Jim Devellano and company. How many goalies get to do that? Maybe Patrick Roy with the '86 Montreal Canadiens and the '96 Colorado Avalanche.

Darren Pang telling Vernon he will be a Red Wing for a long time, only for Vernon to then immediately be traded. Crazy stuff

Do you still have the VHS tape of this game?
@DaveTucker-yu6rx7 ай бұрын
I have loads of VHS just easier and less hassle retrieving the tapes and player from the attic. It sucks in the U.K got no coverage and cancelling my subscription to viaplay (used to be premier sports) they are only going to show highlights for an hour whoopie !

Is this the game where Konstantinov got into that horrible car accident afterwards?
@johndinisi5183 Жыл бұрын
Sadly . Yes . Vlad was part of the corp group that went through so many disappointing playoff exits & was definitely a core player of what would lead to a dynasty. A fan favorite with his style of play. Wish he could've played on those other Cup winners.
@johndinisi5183 Жыл бұрын
Thinking back on it, really Yzerman, Federov , Lindstrom & Konstantinov were the guys that were there every step of the Wings runs to the cup. Guys like Probert, Primeau,, Sheppard did not get to hoist the cup. Of course Primeau was traded for Shanahan & Sheppard traded for Larionov, while McCarty became sort of the new Probert . On a positive note Probert's old pal Joey Kocur returned to Detroit just in time to help out.

Philadelphia played better without a goalie @ 1.35 left they could've won. The team viewing the dissallowed goal should be fired it is very clear that Hextall had his skate and glove (puck in the glove) was behind the goal line . Draper did not slash Lindros , Lindros pulled his jersey that made Draper spin and accidentally catch him yet Shanahan got blatantly slashed and nothing given. Imagine if a team losing 2-0 pulled their goalie with 1:35 on the clock in a Stanley Cup final wouldn't it be funny if the team winning also pulled their golalie . Would it be allowed? I know it would be taunting the other team but it would make the game interesting and give a team out of their depth a chance 😂

Well Philly had the better regular season record, which worked out since we were able to win the cup at home in the sweep. But furthermore I think up until this point the Wings had failed to prove they could go all the way. In 1995 they were swept in the finals by the Devils in embarrassing fashion, and the following year in 1996 the Avs got the best of us in the Conference finals. Also people thought Philly would out-physical Detroit, and clearly that did not happen. I think even the Flyers were surprised by how physical we were able to play.
@elizabethlacky6068 Жыл бұрын
@uTubeNoITube I predicted the Red Wings would sweep ..I watched the Ducks and Wings, and they were fast. The Flyers were trying to recreate the Broad Street Bullies, however, the game was far more sophisticated since that time. Flyers couldn't hang with the Wings speed .
