Whole track needs to be ripped up and rebuilt. Would be too expensive with such little reward. Stock car racing was at its peak in the 90s and even then never really took off in Australia. NASCAR is failing now so I don't see it happening unfortunately. It would be very very risky.

The whole stadium part needs a lot of work. Based on recent photos, the track itself isn't in the worst condition, you could repave it easy enough. It's been maintained better then a completely abandoned track. But all the seating and everything is destroyed. Oval racing died in the 2000s, and there's very little reason to bring it back. It probably would've held on here (I say that because our dirt track and short oval scene is very much alive and kicking) except for the fact that this was the only proper oval track. Realistically, Australia needed another super speedway in Sydney and a few proper full length short ovals, so that they could do a longer series with 2 big events, an enduro race and Bathurst as a circuit race. Should've had dirt race too. The series just didn't have the support. I do wonder though why they never raced Indycar at the Thunderdome. I guess the Gold Coast just had the bigger draw. It'd be much the same now. I can't imagine Indycar going to the Thunderdome for a race when they could have Gold Coast or Newcastle instead. Hell, Adelaide has a pitch with the resurrection of the GP circuit on the cards. I just can't see the Thunderdome being an attractive prospect.

@@CharlesFreck yeah true... with f1 Adelaide should always been there even with the new track at the bend.. since f1 Melbourne is cancelled for this year.. it should of went to Adelaide instead
