Nigel Mansells Indycar 1994

I think that most US open wheel fans knew that Mansell would be very competitive in Indycar. In fact most of us, I believe, are F1 fans first and then comes everything else. Nige had a large fanbase here also. Frank's loss was our gain! Thanks for posting.

46:25 Rahal would go on to have an Alonso-esque relationship with Honda that first year, and opted for Mercedes-branded Ilmor power in '95 after suffering through a very difficult season. But he was prophetic when he said Honda would start winning eventually; they broke through for a race win in '95 at New Hampshire and in '96 they powered Jimmy Vasser and the Ganassi team to the driver's title. Since then they've never failed to be competitive in Indy cars - and have often been dominant.

BUT they totally suck in F1 and have not won a championship in over 25 years. Last year in F1, their engines must have been made of glass: they kept breaking down!

wow jesus christ this lineup is like legend after legend after legend even the 3 - 4 young guys become legends in the sport ... its kinda sad to see how good indy use to be and now its just a bunch of nobody's people you never heard of before ,,, i blame nascar being so popular and the drivers making so much more money all the greatest drivers want nothing to do with indy and they pluck the best drivers at a young age and go straight into nascar

Thanks for the video! Hey it says in the credits John O'Hara & Steve Duberry did the soundtrack music but I lost count how many years I looked for it. I recall that no one much got near the Penske super team that year. Sadly, Nigel lost interest when he realised he didn't have a competitive car. I suspect Senna's death had something to do with his mindset too.

Mansell would have won a few races in 1994 if his team hadn't stuck with the obsolete Lola chassis. It was crushed by the competition that year and won only one out of 16 races (Scott Goodyear won the Michigan 500). Even the new Reynard was beating the Lola every so often. If he had been at Penske, I think Al Unser Jr. would NOT have won 8 races. I think 4-5 is more likely.
