The reasons why this is so great is: full field of OEM manufacturers, motion blur on camera, commentary, close racing formula, pit stops, rain
@notmenotme6142 жыл бұрын
Yep that era of so many manufacturers, that everyone could relate to, was great. Now BTCC doesnt seem the same. Especially when regulations have made the cars all the same underneath.

Pit stops were one of the worst decisions btcc ever made. I remember sitting at donington during the pit stop era and they were nose to tail before the pit stops and spread out and dull after it. No thanks

@@electroid8119 True, but those 19" wheels that have no business fitting under those arches are just👌. Cars that were heavily modified to the nth-degree under the skin (like dry sump, flipping the heads around, the half-shaft running through the middle of the Mondeo's V6 Vee so low was the V6 placed etc), but which resembled road cars. It was a great formula, even if perhaps there were too many freedoms for the class' own good!

Testiment to just how good a driver Will Hoy really was - with the rest of the field having a meltdown he walks off into the rain like it's a normal trip down the M4

I’m not so sure. One memory I have that stands out about Super Touring is that in many years (94,96,97,99,) the races were more often than not very processional.

@@thebrummierailenthusiasts5329 Yes, as Brad Jones' co-driver at Bathurst for about 5 attempts, in addition to racing the Vectra in the Super Touring Bathursts in '97 & '98 (which was actually the official Bathurst 1000km, there is a long story about V8 Supercars having a television dispute with the race organisers and setting up a rival race.) Matt Neal, Yvan Muller, Rickard Rydell and Jason Plato also raced at Bathurst in the 5L class from time to time. Jason Plato actually shared with Peter Brock in Brock's last Bathurst 1000, but the car flipped over while Plato was driving before Brock ever got in the car during the race, sadly (insert comment about Plato here, lol...).

@canveyrossful3 жыл бұрын
From memory, the second race in 1998 was a feature race which involved a mandatory pitstop. The teams would tear the yellow strip off once the pitstop was over so everyone can see who had and hasn't made a pitstop.

They should have kept the BTCC regulations as they were during the 90's. At the turn of the century rules and regulations made it way too expensive for manufacturers and too boring for the audience.
