This woulda been great without the 80s cheese music tho. Can barely hear the racers behind it
@JackDavis162 жыл бұрын
I don't agree. This is 90s music from the BTCC PS1 game so it's relevant. The audio mix between music, commentary, and engine is balanced. Without the music it would just be random clips without cohesion. There's no piece of music that everyone is going to like. This is an entertainment/nostalgia edit not a review video.

The more I watch these nostalgia videos, the more I think the late 80s to the late 90s was probably the sweet spot for ALL sports, be they motor racing, football, golf, rugby etc. etc. It was the era before far too much money came into sport, there was still a degree of the stars being "within reach", and great, charismatic commentary from the Walkers, Motsons, Allisses and Carpenters of this world with terrestrial TV coverage that made it accessible to almost all. Great stuff, wonderful memories and happy days

I think technology-wise as well the 90s were the golden age of motorsport. It was the transition point between the old world and the modern one. Modern tech was starting to come in and cars were starting to become seriously capable machines, but there was enough old-tech jank that they were still absolutely wild machines. Chassis, aerodynamics and suspension were still relatively simple compared to today, and you would still see cars right on the ragged edge of controllability.

With 300HP (+/- 10HP), a naturally aspirated engine, minimal aero and a maximum attack drive for 100% of the race, this was BTCC's finest hour IMO. I was glued to my TV screen throughout the whole race and couldn't wait for the next race to start. I think that today's BTCC is so watered down in comparison. I'd start watching again if they banned aero and turned up the wick on these unstressed engine's so they were at their limit for the whole race.

This right here is pure nostalgia for me. I was around 10 years old here in Sweden at the time, and when the BTCC races was on Eurosport it was me and dad time without questioning. Neither my mom nor my idiot older brother had anything to say or do in the living room- when the race started me and dad was glued to the tv rooting for our countryman Rydell to win! Remebering all the epic races, often neck and neck with battered cars to the finish line, the excitement i remember as a young boy watching this and bonding with my father over it really do bring a tear to my eye, may my father rest in peace. There will never be anything quite like the BTCC of the 80´s/90´s i´m shure. Also in those days we seldom had swedish commentators on the livestreams so we also listened to Murray Walkers amazing comentating.
