I still use those speakers - I kept getting new computers over the years but kept the speakers and they still work like now in 2018

We used those speakers on our PCs till 2004 when I purchased my first desktop a Pentium 4 Dell that came with its own speakers. The Gateway speakers moved to the garage and were used till 2018 for the sports TV and radio. Meanwhile I think the Dell speakers were recycled back in 2012 or 13 because one channel would go out and the volume dial would crackle at lower volumes. The old gateway desktops were TANKS! Our Gateway 2000 was still seeing daily use till 2004 when I had to upgrade in order to do school work.

In 2001 those p2 gateways were coming out for 8.99 at the goodwill clearance store in Texas. We drooled over p 3's at that time.

I remember there being some really surreal gateway commercials involving the boxes floating around in grassy fields, anyone know where I can find these?

It you think that $1,500 USD for a desktop computer was expensive then take a look at 1995 computer magazines. The cheapest name brand Pentium desktop PC I think was around $2,000, and $3,000 to $4,000 desktop Pentium desktop PC's were pretty common (though you could pick up a new low end 486 CPU based desktop for as low as around $1,350). However just a few years later In 1999 the least expensive newly introduced name brand desktop PC was an Emachines Etower 300K (AMD K6-2 CPU 300 Mhz) for around $399.It wasn't a very good gamer (It had a pathetic Integrated onboard ATI Rage IIc (4 mb) graphics chip and a dinky 2.1 GB Fujitsu Hard Drive).$399 for a new PC was unheard of at that time Emachines drove Packard Bell out of the desktop PC business in the U.S.A. and caused other PC makers to scramble also having much cheaper entry level PC's available. The year before I was told the least expensive new PC in 1998 cost around $800 or so and was likely not a Pentium II class PC but rather an elderly Pentium I era or maybe a AMD K6 class PC.I can easily see a Pentium II class desktop costing $1,500 as Intel charged a lot for their new CPU's (New Pentium 1 systems were still being sold in 1998 too).Lets be honest here the Pentium II's were the upper end in 1998.I have a Gateway 2000 G266m Pentium II 266 Mhz system a neighbor gave to me (still works!) and see how much he payed for it back in early 1998.It was reasonable.
