Bought a 97 cr250 three years ago. It def beats you up more than a steel frame cr or a new ktm, but the power can’t be matched. FMF fatty and vforce reeds on mine. I went up to a 51 on the rear too. Had my suspension re done and all the chassis bearings replaced by a local guy. Made a big difference! On the dry slick hard pack she’s a hand full but up in Michigan when it’s soft and deep ruts, you can just let her eat all the chocolate cake she can handle. The big single rad never overheats or spews coolant either.

Lol chocolate cake. I agree though on hard pack they can be a handful once they come on the pipe

I've got a 98, I put an RG3 triple clamp with rubber mounted handlebar brackets, it helps with the vibration quite a lot. I also got rid of the power jet carb and put a Keihin airstriker instead, makes it MUCH better

Your videos are awesome! Thank you for such well done videos with such great details. Please consider doing a video on the KLR650. I think there are many people who’d really love to see that.

Awesome!! I rode with a semipro rider that absolutely loved the '99 250. He kept it alive until he got sponsored and went to the 450. Such an epic machine! PLEASE do a video on the history of the TRX450R. Those early kickstart versions were game changers. And... Lol. I hear that the Yamaha Raptor was originally designed for the 426 engine, and at the last minute they used the Grizzly 660.... Leading to all the problems of the top heavy first generation. Keep up the amazing work.

Wouldnt the real game changer be the yfz450? It was first and what everbody else had to play catch up to.

@@1911brian Oh, absolutely. Yamaha set the 4stroke precedent... and deserve all the respect. But Honda changed the game. That early 450R was epic. Obviously, the first gen 450s aren't relevant today, but at the time, every magazine and website was going crazy about the successor to the legendary TRX250R. It wasn't the best handling, nor had the most power... But they did it all really well. If not for the threat of the 450r, the YZF wouldn't have pushed the power... The LTR wouldn't have redesigned their suspension. Don't get me wrong, I love a QuadRacer 450, and the YZF... But Honda quit making the 450R ten years ago.... and they're still winning..... against brand new opposition. Gotta respect that. When Honda came out of the gate, every other manufacturer took notice.

@@Matt-416 For sure, it is sad to me to see that yamaha is the only one still making a 450 i think right? Went from the canam ,kfx, ltr, trx didnt polaris and ktm have one at one point to? I didnt know that about the 426 in the raptor either i had an 03 660 it was fun til u had to turn!

@@Matt-416 I guess you could make the argument for the z400 or even 400ex being pre runners in a 4stroke hi po quad b4 the yfz too

Hi, would you mind doing a review on the Honda CRM250? I loved your review on the Suzuki RMX 250 and wondered which one was the best and what would be the pro's and con's between them if I were to buy one of them. Thanks👍

My dad Bought a 98 CR250 brand new loved the bike and the suspension which is odd considering he’s a bigger guy not the fastest though he traded it for a new 2001 kx250 which he hated the suspension on and missed the top end of the Honda. Interesting to hear what other people were thinking when those bikes came out. Great video would love to see a video of either 2001 or 2002 CR250.

Great video as always. I read your article on the 05 rm250 on pulpmx but i think a video would be cool. Other than the 92-96 CRs i think its the best 250t I've ridden

I have a 98 I love the bike but in my opinion the vibration in the bars is worse then a cr500 and when you hand go numb in the whoops definitely a hard beast to tame

In 1997 Honda stopped their contingency money and the new frame was too stiff. My son was racing then. GFI,CMA, AMP. For 2 years we saw no Honda's. It had a bad rep. Honda sorted it our, began the contingency money and things returned to normal.
