1998 Honda Odyssey Starting and Stalling Issues

I made this video as I wanted to allow a brother of mine to help me diagnose the problem I was having. It ended up being a microscopic crack in the distributor cap. I was able to troubleshoot this by spraying the distributor cap with a spray bottle filled with water. The vehicle died instantly and I was able to see an electric discharge from the crack in the distributor cap. I replaced the cap with a new one and voila, the Odyssey was back up and running.

I have a 96 and 98 odyssey .. Same problem .. Ignition switch ..the on position cant hold contact ..contact point burned ..!

My 96 died going through a intersection couldn't get it started. Has a new newer fuel pump. Guy said it was an ignition module which I bought.....it wasn't.

Hi Stephen, I am sorry to hear about your car dying while going through an intersection. For me, it was an issue of having a microscopic crack on the distributor cap. Any time there was moisture in the air, it would struggle to start or not start at all. To test this, get a spray bottle with water and spray the distributor cap. The vehicle should die instantly and you may even see an electric discharge where the crack is if you have one. If you have not solved the issue, I hope this helps.

Cheak the solenoid on transmission if not cheak starter.

My girlfriend has the cutest younger sister and her older civic does this sometimes. Its hot watching her start the car cuz she starts her car with her right hand and she does this thing where she fans her face in the cutest way with her left hand when its trying to start

It’s sounds like you have a misfire probably you have bad spark plugs or bad coils or a bad Distributor or something I not fully mechanic yet but I know about cars

Cheak the solenoid on the transmission it probably needs cleaning if thats not the problem cheak the vtec solinoid on the engine sometimes it leaks oil, if that's not the that not the problem cheak starter.
