Drove the hell out of one of these brand new as a rental car back in 98’- took it over 4000 miles from Salt Lake through several national parks. It rode decent, was excellent on backroads, did well off-road, and was decent on gas. The V6 was eager to scoot especially once up to cruising speed. The only bad thing I ever heard about these and their Honda rebadged variants was oil sludge if full synthetic and an occasional engine flush weren’t performed. Good SUVs! 2:59 Spoonman!!

They were also notorious rust buckets if you had the astronomical displeasure of owning one while living in the Midwest. These were some of the best-looking mid-size SUVs of their day, it's a shame there are barely any on the road due to them being so unreliable. EDIT: So I made a mistake... turns out their frames would rot out from rust even if you lived in places with no salt on the road or rain like southern CA or Arizona.

Here in Puerto Rico you'll see a lot of them but lately, ever since the return of the Bronco, they're getting picked up and restored these days. According to Edmunds, resale value is between $497-$2,651 but dealerships have been offering Rodeo and Amigo owners crazy amounts of money. A friend of the family recently restored his Rodeo from scratch, all new paint job, wheels and tires, reupholstered interior, reworked engine, the works. He went to the dealership last month to find a car for his granddaughter and the employee who was supposed to help him couldn't stop fawning over it, the dealership offered him 45K but he flat-out refused.

Everything you say Milhouse sounds like a lie to me, since these trucks are very tough, the rear differential is a Dana 44 and the manual gearboxes are MUA bulletproof. On the other hand, the GM 4L30-E automatic transmissions that were available in the more expensive versions in the Rodeo and Passport were reliable if they were given a minimum of maintenance (change of the Dexron III and filter)
@williamperri34372 жыл бұрын
@@emanuelsmith1854 I hear both stories. I've heard many experts talk about that transmission being very good in the lighter BMWs and other smaller Vehicles the transmission was in but the rodeo was apparently just too heavy for the 4l30. I'm on my second rodeo and the first one I had from 92,000 until about 95,000 miles and it was a 2000 passport. I absolutely love the vehicle so much more than my pathfinder or 4runners that I've driven but I sold it when I started feeling slamming in the rear end. My mechanic lubed up the bushings and it was better for a better day or two but came back. The guy that I sold it to is still driving it and he said he even flushed the transmission which is absolutely not recommended but he's put about 10,000 miles on it and the transmission is fine. I now have 156,000 on my 99 Rodeo and drove it for about a half a year with no transmission issues until the transmission line rusted out. It's now been sitting for five or six months and I'm going to change the transmission line with my mechanic but I have to admit I'm worried! 😂 😢 I love the way the rodeo drives and I could be worth 50 million and I still would want a fleet of Rodeo's. So any advice? I've already watched the videos and they say that there's two filters of bigger one and a smaller one. They also do not make that transmission fluid anymore so what fluid should I use? I've also watched videos where they say clean out the whole pan not just the filters. I have heard of people getting over 200,000 Mi on that 4l30 GM transmission and I hope I'm one of those guys. Also, do you know anything about driving it in sport mode all the time? I've heard from a few people it's actually better on the transmission even though you're going to be eating gas. I actually don't hate the way this transmission shifts like so many people complain about.

I love Isuzu! In the first place, it is a Japanese giant, it is the first and largest producer of diesel engines in Japan, it has always aimed at the market for heavy vehicles/trucks, etc. (understanding the above, manufacturing pick-ups or SUVs is something easy for them). Competing with its Japanese rivals I think has been one of the most difficult tasks, not only for Isuzu, but for any of its Japanese allies; They have maintained a very high manufacturing quality that has improved over the decades, as well as their quality controls. In addition to its main virtues over non-Japanese competition, for example, the creation of a valuable business ethic that has marked the differences over the rest, since the Japanese do not take care of customers out of their minds and as a result, the manufacture of a reliable and durable product. Not to mention after-sales and customer service, areas in which they are leaders. Rodeo competed with 4Runner, Pathfinder, Montero Sport, etc, hot and mid-segment SUVs (except Pathfinder which had cheaper monocoque construction) the rest had chassis construction, strong and durable like a truck. In the case of this Isuzu Rodeo, in some ways it was superior to the competition, for example, from its parts like Zexel A/C compressors that are still running on vehicles over 20 years old, Hitachi independent ignition coils, better than the Denso used by Toyota. Oversized racks/wishbones vs 4Runner, or TRW Koyo headsets that keep running smooth over the years. Unfortunately, the alliance with GM did not help Isuzu in the image and marketing of its products; not only harmed her, but affected many others. In any case, Isuzu continues to manufacture with a lot of quality, maintaining its principles of care and customer satisfaction as a good and noble Japanese company 🤝

I actually own a 2002 Isuzu rodeo S/LE Ironman Edition! She has about 210,077 miles on the clock and she has not given me much issues besides the wiper arm failed just very recently, the washer reservoir is slightly cracked and I believe the exhaust needs to be replaced I also have every single part that needs to be replaced, just unfortunately haven’t had the time but other than that she is a trooper my rodeo actually did not come with fog lights, but the absolute cool part about the Isuzu Rodeo is that when I got the fog light covers removed there was already wires in place for fog lights, so what I did I cut them out and added factory fog lights with a factory switch and on top of that security system all the wiring with there the vent right underneath the steering wheel already there just had to pop off the cover and get some pieces for it I have original floor mats for it. I swapped out the headrest for a 98 open see-through headrest. I have the original cargo cover the one sad part I don’t have is the subwoofer that was actually a option but I’m hoping to find one, one day believe it or not after being in the sun for 21 years about to be 22 the dash has not cracked and I am so thankful for it so I have a good looking beautiful dash Mat, she has a beautiful decal that says ISUZU in white font on the front windshield and the tow hitch had ready wires for connections from factory absolutely blew my mind a 12v socket for the rear trunk again wiring all there blew my mind. I still have all the original tire jack and tools I have the owners manual sometimes they are destroyed and what not but surprising they are not, there is no tears besides, the driver seat is from the previous owner and one small tear in the carpet again previous owner, steering wheel in good condition. I did have to get the rodeo repainted. Unfortunately they did a horrible job and painted everything white! So like they painted everything and I mean everything tail lights, headlights, mirrors, roof rack, mudflaps tires they painted everything I came home from school one day I was like what the heck!!! so we then repainted it ourselves back to what it would look like but I’m thinking and considering putting the bumpers back to gray because the Iron Man edition had gray bumpers with Alpine white and the side panels on the doors with gray as well so I really want to go and try to do that again, but we will have to see main Thing is doing the maintenance which is all here. People keep on asking me why do you still have this old thing and I look at them I’m like I’m the only one with the car says the one who’s talking without a vehicle and if you have a vehicle you’re making payments on it I ain’t got to make payments so I’m thankful for what I got you just gotta be thankful for what you have and I own six vehicles and I still do and I’m 21 and my rodeo is 21 we’re about to be 22 which is kind of funny but but I own the O2 Isuzu Rodeo I own a 06/09 Chevrolet Cobalt 1LT/SS I own a 1997 Saturn SL2 155,000 miles, 2011 Honda CR-V EX-L a 2009 Pontiac G5 coupe SE (I believe) with 56,000 miles and a 2005 Saturn Ion quad coupe 3 with 75,000 miles on the clock so yeah I will N0T get rid of my cars. I love my vehicles Cannot take them out of my hands, even if I was dead, and especially not the Rodeo😌 also also I still have the original key! And the same for alll my vehicles, it’s quite difficult for finding older vehicles with their OEM keys. Honda couldn't save US Isuzu passenger car business from the damage done by it's partnership with GM. I had a 1991 Isuzu Stylus. It had a couple issues, but for me it was more a problem in dealership experience than product disappointment. I found a great independent shop and continued to really enjoy that car.

Auto or stick shift? How has the transmission held up? And do you make sure you warm it up before you drive it, especially in the fall and winter? I've had very little transmission issues out of my 30 cars and I've only lost one Ford Taurus transmission but these Transmissions are known to be hit or miss

My girlfriend had one of these back in 2002. She bought it used & it had just come off warranty. What a POS!! In the 3 yrs she owned it, she put nearly $6k in repairs. Everything from a transfer case to a rear diff, to a steering rack, and on and on. That's why you almost never see these on the roads anymore. They're all in junkyards.

Everything Dennis says sounds like a lie to me, since these trucks are very tough, the transfer case and manual gearbox are MUA, bulletproof, the rear differential is an unbreakable Dana 44 LSD; . On the other hand, the GM 4L30-E automatic transmissions that were available in the more expensive Rodeo and Passport versions were reliable only if given minimal maintenance (Dexron III and filter change). finally the zippers were made by TRW Koyo, it was the best of the best; many still work without repairs or leaks.

I disagree Carl, these Isuzu trucks are very strong just like the Troopers. Rodeo competed with 4Runner (among other midsize suvs) and in some points was superior to the competition.

@@dontelindsey5846 Hello!. In the first place, Isuzu is a Japanese giant, it is the first producer of diesel engines in Japan and has always aimed at the market for heavy vehicles/trucks, etc. Did I mention that Rodeo was superior to the competition in some ways, for example from parts like Zexel A/C compressors that are still running on vehicles over 20 years old, Hitachi independent ignition coils, better than the Denso used by Toyota. Oversized racks/wishbones vs 4Runner, etc.
