When i was a kid, maybe between 9 and 12, we used my family's 98' Isuzu Rodeo in silver to travel and sight see across the country. I sat alone in the back but we always brought the 12V-to-120V ac converter hooked up in the back cargo 12V outlet, and i'd plug my PS1 and a 5 inch RCA TV facing back, stuffed in between the front 2 seats on the armrest. Anyway we traveled all over the US; Grand Canyon, Niagara Falls, we went all over in that Rodeo. I didnt really think much about the SUV at the time, what kid does. But these things hold a special something in my heart whenever i see them, especially in the silver pre-facelift 98/99's.

While we never had a Passport, we had its cousin for a few years; an Isuzu Rodeo. It was 2000, my father had surprised me when he picked me up from school. That Rodeo is what drove my love for SUVs. After that, he sold the Rodeo and got a 2003 Nissan Xterra for the family.

I just bought a pretty clean 2001 Rodeo LS manual 4x4 and just about everything you stated is the truth. However, with a few upgrades it’s going to make a nice off roader for me in Colorado. The manual is what really sold me after reading about the auto transmissions in these. Good content!

Thank you! I'm jealous! I drove a manual 2WD Rodeo a few years ago and it was a blast LOL. Yours will serve you well!

The manual trans v6 will always be my unicorn. I daily a 2wd rodeo for the past 5 years. I decided 2 years ago to jump the gun on a 4wd v6 manual rodeo but the seller backed out. A week later I settled for a automatic passport. Im almost 40 and My 2nd car was an isuzu trooper II inline 4 4x4 here in socal. It's a great plattform and worth its lore.

@@aldousrmaximus1775 I'm loving it so far. I have my OME full kit sitting in the garage waiting to be installed. Going with a 30.5" tire and all this together should get me to the places I need to go.

I picked up a 2000 Honda Passport EX a couple of years ago and have only done preventative maintenance. Highly reliable for it's age. Unfortunately, I am 6'1 and with the sunroof feature, my head is usually touching the liner. Likely won't invest much more, but it's been great.

98/99 are the same. 00 was actually the refresh in the body and they went to the electronic throttlebody and ion sensing ignition. Also, the 4.3 and 5.7 do not bolt up. If anyone is looking for a swap to bolt up to the trans, you need to look up gm 60° bolt pattern. Or you can swap the trans and tcase, but need a tcase with a passenger drop unless you axle swap the front to a solid axle with a driver's side drop and so on and so forth. Great review. Shame you didn't get to see how they handle with some hd coils, torsion bars and wider set of tires. Also, you should drive a vehicross. With the aluminum body on a trooper frame there like 4x4 vettes lol.

Theres the infamous noise you were trying to get it to make. Sounds like you didn't hate it, but you weren't in love with it. Since you have 567 cars, losing this one won't be too bad. Heck, you might be able to get your money back and some more on it since these are hard to find.

i miss how wildly shtty the interior was on those 90s japanese trucks. my toyota had basically the same absolutely terrible seats. those interiors didn't leave the 80s until well into the 2000s. i'm still trying to stop myself from buying an isuzu amigo right now. youtube smells blood in the water and is just throwing amigo and passport stuff all over my feed now. i'll probably have to delete this account to escape it.
