I had an compaq armada 1590dt (its the exact same machine but it had little bit lower specs) years and it was awesome, i loved playing dos games on that because they were running fantastic. I have memories of playing lots of skyroads and jazz jackrabbit. Although the fact that the speakers were placed on the palm rest was not ideal for gaming because you were covering them with you're hands most of the time but it wasn't so much of an issue. Suddenly mine was well used by the previous owner and in a rought shape and started falling apart (plastic became fragile, screen had issues, and at some point the original hdd failed) until it was unusable, so at that point i had to scrap it .

Really good video! This machine is a ripper for DOS gamed. With SETMUL you can fine-tun the speed and make it slower for those older speed sensitive games and the ESS sound card is really good.

I finally laid my hands on one of these last year but sadly it failed not long after. It’s an awesome machine for DOS and Windows games up to the mid 90s. Mine would chug along quite happily playing Age of Empires for hours on end while sat on the sofa. Just awesome

Yep, I hear ya. I’ve got a bunch of laptops that all had rather sudden deaths and one day I’ll get around to fixing.. It’s always the way, you get one set up nicely and then one day it just doesnt turn on

Nice machine. Heard good things about ESS in general and it seems to be true.

its decent for a laptop but nothing in comparison to a creative soundblaster desktop card. FM synthesis works great, but I can't get PCM sounds to work with more than 8bit mono under DOS.

Great video! I didn’t know that there was a PC version of Jungle Strike.

Cheers! :-) Yes indeed, I recall finding the demo on one of those coverdisc CD's on an Australian gaming magazine around the time. There were lots of ports from the Sega systems to DOS and Jungle Strike was one of the better ones in my opinion.

There was desert strike, jungle strike and urban strike. I know the first 2 games were ported to DOS. Later on you have nuclear strike and Soviet strike but I don't know if those were ported to PC.

Totally - and I recall around 1999 I tried to buy a Dell Inspiron 3000 using a staff discount. I still couldn't afford it :-)

I haven't pulled my one apart yet. There is a decent maintenance manual available on the net. Typically the video array is on the motherboard - so my advice would be: remove the LCD and cable and try running the system with an external VGA display. See if you can replicate the problem. If it's still glitching on external with the internal removed you may have a dodgey connection on the motherboard. They can be tricky to troubleshoot. If it doesn't glitch, try looking carefully at the lcd cable, lvds (driver board) and connection to the screen. Sorry I couldn't be of more help!
