Hello everyone, i have been having trouble with the ignition cylinder in my Grand Am. It will not turn past the second "Click" i have found a very easy way around it temporarily saving me $200^.

The problem is the crank shaft sensor, it is exactly in top of the oil filter. I just spent 5 hr to find it. Buy and replace it. To replace it you will need to take the oil filter out. Drain the old first.

Let me see if I've got this right.. 1st, You remove the surround that covers the upper, (interior) section of the steering wheel column assembly. 2nd, You can then use any small size Hex Wrench and push it up into the Hole that is located on the bottom side of the Ignition Lock Assembly. 3rd, Then the vehicle will start as it normally would...... Should have re-shot & then edited a new video with a bit better control on the camera, perhaps with another person helping. Thanks for posting the video anyways. My daughter has a nice looking 1996 Pontiac Grand AM SE with under 94.5k miles but her Ignition not only gets stuck in the ''On Position'' but now also started to just Turnover & not start, then yesterday it started to run rough, then die out. We ended up waiting like 20-30 minutes before the car would start & run correctly.... Bummer because the car looks great w/94k miles on it but not sure about how much money should be put into it before calling it quits and then just sell it............ I mean dang, it's 25 years old now....

Yes to your first questions. Thanks for the comment, yeah the video was really spur of the moment. Does your grand am give you a security light on the hud when it won't turn over?

@@ChristianColvin I was busy today when all of a sudden, my daughter waks in with my wife. She took her Grand AM into a shop. I was upset because the wrong shop can make sure you leave with an empty wallet.... But I remember seeing the Security Light On while the car was acting up. Hers turns over, just won't start. Seems like it's been taking around 20-30 minutes of sitting in order for it to finally start running correctly..... I'll let you know what happens once my daughter gets her car back, or calls to let me know what they found going on. I already know that the ignition lock isn't working correctly. It won't allow you to turn the key to the ''On'' Position, or over to the ''Start'' Position....

@@montydaniels1054 okay, yeah i know what you mean about shops taking all they can. I found that if the security light is on, leave the ignition in the start position for around 10 to 20 mins, turn the key off, remove the key, then start it up and it would crank. I hope all goes well.

Thanks. Ill check into that. And it is a pin problem. Metal pin must be pushed up in order to turn the key over. Its not the security system like some people say.

Don't know if you have this car still but there's a recall on the ignition for my grand Prix apparently weight on the keys cause anti theft to go off

Mine wouldn't turn off. But there is a button under the column you can press to allow it to turn off all the way.bonus, you dont have to take off all the panels, just the one on the bottom.

I had to do the key relearn to get mine going
